I like Fushigi Yugi and Rurouni Kenshin, and I own the single volumes 1-4 of Fushigi Yugi and volumes 1-6 of Rurouni Kenshin. As you can see, I haven't gotten very far. I was trying to decide if I want to get the VIZBIG Editions of them, because I get 3 volumes in one, and it would be less time and money to collect them. (I did the math.) However, the VIZBIG Editions are so big and bulky, and I rather like reading single volumed manga, but seeing as I am behind on those two series, and at the same time collecting others, I saw the VIZBIG Editions as being easier to collect. But I just don't know.
What are your opinions on the VIZBIG Editions? Do think I should just go with them? Or continue collecting the single volumes?
I know in the end, I will have to make the decision myself, but I want your opinions. Give me good reasons to buy the VIZBIG Editions, or good reasons not to buy them.

I've yet to get any Viz bigs, but I did rent the Battle Royale omnibus editions from the library, which are about the same size except with a hardcover.
Oddly enough, they weren't nearly as difficult to read through as I had initially thought they'd be, even with the hardcovers. As long as the print isn't too close to the spine, I found them just as easy to read as a normal volume of manga, almost easier because they were a bigger size and the pages didn't mind being open. It's rather like the difference between flipping through a huge dictionary vs a smaller pocket dictionary.
Now, if you're going for unity and you want all the volumes to look the same, that's up to you. If you're concerned with readability, don't be. And I hardly missed having a 3 in 1 volume instead of 3 separate ones when reading it (although I know what you mean by liking single volumes).

As someone who has over 1000's of manga in my house, I love the idea of the VIZBIG Editions. If your really crunched on money and want more for your buck, it's worth buying, especially for those long series like Kenshin and Fushigi Yugi.
About the Kenshin thing, that special chapter was published in the Shonen Jump magazine, but isn't included in the last volume of the individual books, so I guess it's more worth it to buy Kenshin in VIZBIG.
I'm currently buying Fushigi Yugi, Hot Gimmick, Inuyasha and Vagabond in this format and i'm loving it. Granted the concern most people have are with the sheer size and weight of the book. The TP Ultimate Editions of Battle Royale are actually lighter than VIZBIG, mainly because of the paper. TP used normal quality paper that they use for their regular books to make it, which has a lighter weight to it, where are Viz uses a high quality type of paper that doesn't discolor over time, at least not that easily and this HQ paper makes the book altogether heavier.
So if you really worry more about the money aspect, you should get the VIZBIG editions. Does it really matter if you can read it on the go? Personally, I like sitting on my chair and shrinking into my corner reading a book than to bury my face into a book while i'm going to school, it preserves the book better and you don't get starred at.

I personally own all of Dragon Ball and eventually had to sell Rurouni Kenshin due to a lack of space for storing all that manga. Having hte Viz Big editions has been a huge help to cut down on space and the cost of all that manga. Right now I'm reading Vagabond in the format and it's great to have such a huge chunk of the series in each volume and I appreciate the colour pages.
I've actually decided to hold out purchasing most other Viz titles that are probably going to get the treatment in the future because if I'm going to be buying a series, I'd prefer to have the higher quality and cheaper price in the Viz Big editions.

I agree with you on that last part. I like to read my manga at home, I don't take it with me to school or anywhere. I do actually worry about the money aspect more. That was why I had thought about getting the VIZBIG Editions. Despite them being $17.99, I'm getting 3 volumes, and in one place, I don't have to go all over the place searching for that next volume. After your response, I am erring toward the VIZBIG Editions, because you made a good point. It's also good to know that the VIZBIGs aren't as bulky as I think.
Your response has encouraged me more to buy the VIZBIG Editions. However, I am still open to opinions, so people don't be afraid to comment, I want to know what you think. Encourage me or discourage me.

I bought all the Dragon Ball (not Z) VIZBIGsand liked them a lot. Mostly for thier oversized art work and cheap price. Though I did find volume 4 slightly unweldly with its extra 4th volmes. While a great deal, the extra pages really made vol,4 unweldly, with some art and text lost in the depths of the spine.
That being said, I love the VIZBIG and Omnibus concept and would love to catch up on other super long series by it. *HINT*I want VIZBIG for MONSTER Viz. Make it happen*HINT*

They're super convenient and economical, especially for a longer series like Vagabond, which I recently started. The paper is sturdy and good quality, and there's color pages! They don't just slap three books together, they go the extra mile of giving it larger pages, color pages, etc.
@Mr. Adventure: I'm also hoping they do one for Monster.

I've only got VizBig 3 of Dragon Ball and VizBigs 1 and 2 for Dragon Ball Z, but I've got 1 through 7 of the Rurouni Kenshin ones so far. I'm loving them, the bigger pages, occasional color pages, three volumes for approximately the price of two - my only problem is that, after a while, the glue holding the front and back covers comes a bit loose. Not so bad that they're flapping off or anything yet, but they are looser.
Maybe I just read them too much.
I'm hoping they do some for Yu Yu Hakusho soon, once it's final volume finally comes out. And though I've got the singles, I'll double-dip for I"s VizBigs.

Okay, I'm getting more encouraged to buy the VIZBIGs. I have also been collecting the single volumes of Yu Yu Hakusho. I have 11 out of 19, and had planned to complete the series when the last one comes out, but if they do get the VIZBIG treatment, I guess I could always sell them.

I personally think something like Pretty Face (Even if it is only 2 volumes), Claymore, Naruto, Uzumaki, and Eyeshield 21 would do well as a VIZBIG.

Pretty Face is only 2 volumes? I'll have to look more into that one then, if it's the one I'm thinkin of anyway.
Naruto will get them sooner or later I'm sure. I mean...it's Naruto.

What I meant is that Pretty Face is that it has 6 volumes and it would end up only being 2 VIZBIG volumes. Sorry to have confused you.

So you want reasons to buy Viz Big instead of the normal tank???
Its pretty logical and simple.
1.- Cheaper.
2.- Higher quality paper.
3.- Bigger, yet at the same time it takes less shelf-space than 3 books.
4.- Color pages. (not all, though)
5.- The spine art is pretty cool (at least for Vagabond)

Ohh ok, my bad then. That's still a pretty short series that wouldn't take me too long to snatch up though, I'll have to move it up on my list of things to get (it looked interesting from what I have seen). Thanks for the heads up.
