Wow, first Simoun and now this. For a fad genre, yuri anime seems to be fairly acomplished.

Shouldn't that be "soft interior"?

Sadly, their problems with grammatically-challenged subtitles continue; the mistakes are not as frequent here as in Ghost Hound, but on at least four occasions the subtitles trip up on things like improper use of punctuation, homophones, and spelling. These are not major distractions but still below professional standards.

Hmm...how off-putting.

I watched this series earlier this year, and wrapping me in a warm blanket it did not. The fundamental problem with Blue Drop is it presses for something to happen and nothing ever does. This is the only anime I actually watched at 3x speed if only to get to a point where something happens. Now I have no problem with slow series, but I do have a problem with a series that drags, and dragging is Blue Drop's specialty.

That said, glad you enjoyed it Theron.

Yes lets compare a Yuri anime to Darker Than Black. That makes perfect sense.

I enjoyed this so much on fan-sub & will definitely be buying the DVD set.

The manga, which seems to have gone through several iterations, is also fun.

The mixture of science fiction (very well done) & girl-girl relationships (well done) combined with coming-of-age school drama & backdropped by a great tragedy spoiler[(the heroine's family was accidentally slaughtered by the other heroine's spaceship)] make a watch-able & absorbing little series. Sweet, touching & even plausible.

[EDIT: Added spoiler tags. And such a detailed signature at the end is inappropriate, too. - Key]
(quite right - fixed ~ NM)

Agh! Ow! I just tried imagining how he looks like!

...

Other than that, this series now firmly has my attention.

Did read the subsequent explanation, or are you just trolling? The comparison had no bearing on the actual content of the two series. Sweet Jesus, some people...

Only the first two episodes of this were ever fansubbed, IIRC, as the series was basically ignored. I really, really liked them, and was excited when this was licensed because now it means I can finally see this. Finding it, may be a problem though...

That said, whoever does quality-checking on the subtitles at Studio 23 needs to be fired. How many series is this with punctuation/spelling/grammar errors? It's one thing from a lousy fansubbing group, it's another thing altogether from a professional company doing a commercial release. That would never be a game-breaker for me on buying something, but it is pitiful that mistakes like this slip past.

Only for those adverse to online shopping. Oh, and not that I would encourage this at all, of course, but the complete series is available fansubbed for those wretches who want it.

Although Blood - put it far less delicately, he's right that this one was fansubbed in its entirety. I think the group doing it did change after the first couple of episodes, however. (Not at home right now so I can't double-check.) Whoever did the final few episodes didn't do a very good job of it, though, so even with its grammatical errors Section 23's subs are still a vast improvement because they are at least consistently coherent.

And Fletcher1991: knock it off on the trolling. (And I'm saying that as a Moderator.) If you genuinely can't figure out the connection then go back and read the entirety of that first sentence again.

Thank you Key for now convincing me to check this show out. I will most like rent this first before I decided if I want to buy it or not. The sub mistakes seem like someone at QA was not paying attention to the mistakes or the translators didn't check their work, but nothings perfect so I can over look small mistakes in translations as long as it is not some gross mistake that is not even close to what it is supposed to be.

Fad genre? Yuri's been around at least since Yamagishi Ryoko's Shiroi Heya no Futari manga was published in Shueisha's Ribon magazine in 1971. (And that isn't counting the lesbian overtones prevalent in the earlier "S" genre.) It isn't a "fad" any more than any other type of romance.

Anyway, nice review! (Although I don't care for how the review only focuses on the Dorm Chief's weight when mentioning her character.) I really enjoyed Blue Drop, and I'm planning on getting the Complete Collection.

The series concept appeals to me, but I've heard some really negative opinions about the show from people on other forums. This review just makes me vacillate more. Hrmm...

I really wanted to enjoy this series, but I just never could. Finishing it was a chore, really. I have no problem with slow series, I'm quite fond of those that focus on the characters, but this just took way to long to get anywhere and I felt that very little was even accomplished. To each their own I suppose.

I think I know who you're referring to, and I bet it's due to the ending that pretty much pissed them off. Surprised

As for me....ehhhh.....this is one yuri title I'm still reluctant on watching. After the first 4 episodes on fansubs, the pacing of this series was just far too slow to my liking, and I'm usually able to handle those type of series.
