So glad to see it will be a five-nominee year for this category.

Didn't they want Wolf Children to be nominated? I was hoping to see that rewarded.

Wolf Children is supposed to be part of next year's group.

Bah, I was hoping K-On! would at least be submitted (it's a 2011 film but would still be eligible under the one-year extension as long as it played in Los Angeles by the end of December). Mystical Laws has no chance and, from what I read, it's more or less a recruitment film for the cul... erm, I mean "new religion" called Happy Science.

Real question is why weren't the Berserk and Madoka movies submitted.

I saw Mystical Laws. It is, indeed, a propaganda film for Happy Science. It was still enjoyable. Very well-directed and very pretty. But you cannot take the conclusion of "all humanity prays to the reborn buddha to magically eradicate the evil aliens who have taken over most of the world" very seriously. XD

Howl's Moving Castle was also an Oscar-nominee, but didn't win.
Those are some awesome films listed, but I'm sure Poppy Hill is superior to most of them.

Imagine if Wreck-It Ralph wins it!
(BTW, even though it was released this year, The Secret World of Arrietty is ineligible.)

Glad to see Poppy Hill up there. Just watched the film earlier this evening with my family and we thoroughly enjoyed it.

Arrietty is ineligible because it was a 2010 film in Japan. Foreign animated films only get a 1 calendar year grace period to be released in Los Angeles (which is why Spirited Away was eligible for 2002, even if it was a 2001 film in Japan).

Based on what I've seen so far, ParaNorman should take it. Brave was incredibly weak compared to Pixar's top tier stuff that deserved their wins, and they still be sufficiently "punished" for Cars 2.

I'm still mad at how Summer Wars didn't win the Oscar, I hope this one wins.

Didn't win, heck it (like almost all anime submitted) never made it to the ballot.

That, and the film is kinda weak overall in narrative. It goes from "Save our old building!" to "I never knew my daaaaaaaad." It's pretty and entertaining, but I'm not totally sure what the message is.
