That's awesome. ^^ Although I haven't seen either parts of Afro Samurai, I've heard plenty of positive reviews and such and it's awesome to see anime up for an Emmy.

Bleh! Having Samuel Jackson, Mark Hamill, Lucy Liu and so forth does not make for a great anime movie. The movie was okay at best I'd say. I'm not saying the animation or fight scenes weren't great, but the "better" story they promised this time around, was still terrible.

Cannot comment on the quality of the movie (the first series impressed me so little that I had no desire to see its sequel), but if you're going to list Mark Hamill's credentials, mightn't it be better to cite his long list of voice acting credits rather than just Star Wars? I mean, the man's been the Joker in pretty much every animated Batman adaptation!

Good for Afro Samurai. Maybe this will lead to more R1/R2 co-produced anime.

That's officially the first time I really hope a Jpanese animated movie actually doesn't get an award. It simply doesn't deserves this.

Well, this is nothing more than a gross display of lack of competition. If it were me, I'd just suspend the category; why taint an award with mediocrity on both sides just to be able to hand it out? The creators might consider it an honor, but I see it as a cry for help.

Of course there are tons and tons of better anime series out there. But, I think this is a great step forward for the recognition of anime by the mainstream media.
I hope it leads to more and more co-productions! I'm sure there will be lots of misses and bad teams, but at the same time, maybe more great stuff will have the chance of getting made! Plus - an anime winning an Emmy? That would be awesome! |

hmm, I was really disappointed with this sequel. Most of the movie just felt like a redo of the first season, and all the fights were pretty lame. I would have expected the first Afro Samurai to receive this nomination when it came out instead. Or maybe it did and I just don't know it!

What a joke award, it only has two nominees competing whereas all the other category has at least four or more. The only redeeming qualities Afro has is the artwork/animation and some voice actors/actress. Other than that, everything else is terrible especially the story/plot. Still, I rather see Afro win over Destination Imagination.

I'm hoping Afro wins just because.
I'm a sucker for Samuel L. Jackson. |

Go! Go! Go! Gonzo!
This anime may not appeal to a majority/minority anime fans but it appealed to the people who nominated for an Emmy. |

Not to pick on you or anything but that's what I mean, if it wasn't for Sam J this never would've been nominated. |

Is that saying it's easy or competitive? I actually liked Destination Imagination alot. Haven't seen the Afro Samurai movie though. Unfortunately, there are a lot of fans who have this "all anime is better than all western animation" mentality. |
