As avid an Evangelion fan as I am, even I have to facepalm at the sheer audacity of the producers to prepare yet another version of this film.

Can they please stop "revising" this. The Blu-Ray was essentially as flawless as anything could possibly be. Any more could possibly hurt the reputation.

Haha, might that come out to 1.0 anyway? If it's a "step down", could be like a 1.001. |

This reminds me of the Time a few years back when I was looking for the ultimate version of Army of Darkness on DVD. Finally found it in the form of a Region 3 release that had the best quality video and most footage. Yet even that lacked a few seconds here and there that other editions had and frankly that was just another kick in the teeth.
Seriously. Enough already. |

You can be sure that this TV edition will also be made available on DVD as well. Yeah, it's getting pretty stupid by now.

They can put out as many different versions as they want, but I'm only going to buy one. The only way I'd buy a second would be if it was greatly superior to the first in quality and/or contained a large amount of additional footage.
All they're doing by releasing all these versions, IMO, is muddying the waters and making it difficult for the Average Viewer to know what to buy. |

Every movie will probably get a new edition for when they do the inevitable box set for all four movies.

As much as I admire Eva 1.0 and don't mind DVD versions getting retouched material and the like, this truly is ridiculous. I can see why they like to show people new versions of their work with extra material, but the sheer number of them, and in close proximity of one another, is starting to make ADV's R1 releases and the R2 versions of D&R/EoE look underwhelming. Just release one absolute, definitive version, since all of this just makes people more hesitant about buying something if they know it will just be obsolete soon after. Even though this is on television, it still doesn't make it look any less wrong. Most likely, the movie will have more material pertaining to 2.0 and perhaps hints to 3.0.
Still, though, I thought that the Rebuild films were supposed to be geared to those unfamiliar with Eva and/or those that don't want to trudge through the series. All this does is add to the confusion more and is aimed more at pre-existing fans of the series. Last edited by Sam Murai on Wed Jul 01, 2009 1:44 am; edited 1 time in total |

I have to echo that, although I'm a huge fan of Eva and Anno's work, this is just ridiculous. Especially with the Bluray out. The second film is out, work's progressing on the third. Leave 1 alone already.

South Park is so right about this issue. Don't try to make money by re-packaging every time!

Hoo boy. I can almost see a Blade Runner-type box set in this movie's future.
