Nippon is bidding for Worldcon again in 2017! This time around, it's headed by Tomoki Kodama and Saori Yamamoto, with active participation from Hiroaki Inoue (the 2007 chair). More details to come.
If you're going to Anticipation (this year's Worldcon), there's a Nippon 2017 room party planned for the Thursday, August 6th. I stress that I am not presently associated with this bid, but probably will be at some point in the future. I was on the information staff for Nippon 2007, and can answer some questions about Worldcon and how things worked last time. I suppose the first one is: why such a long gap? And the answer is that Worldcon is a huge, huge amount of work for the fan group hosting it, and once a decade is about as often as any group can handle it. Frankly, it's pretty shocking that they're ready to start bidding again after less than two years! |
