I've been waiting for this for six years, and I'm so eager to see it I'm afraid it won't live up to my expectations.

Thankfully it doesn't seem to be as devoid of mecha as I thought it would. Hoping for something like FSS and I can see there are some similarities in design here.

Yeah, I was thinking it looks like one of those Chinese ripoff anime. Get Urushihara back in here to animate this properly. FSS was brimming with animation talent, which really captured the weight and gravity exhibited by the robots, and the beautiful qualities of the mecha and humans alike. This just doesn't seem to be on the same level, at all. Regardless, still excited for skinny pretty robots.

Don't forget, the entire movie was directed, storyboarded and animated by one guy. Should he have let other people help him? By the looks of it, yes. But it is still an impressive feat nonetheless.

I agree that parts of it look that way, but I think it deserves the benefit of the doubt considering it's being done by one person.

EDIT: Ah, beaten to the punch.

It's not done by one person.

And thats not really a defense. Not with someone so established.

And it's been done-

But it's not like was a nobody like Shinkai when he started out, Nagano could have asked around for more help and talent, but his dominating controlling attitude would have prevented him from doing that unless he had full control over every single person working under him.

With Five Star Stories being the only other point of reference, because the designs from Zeta Gundam, L-Gaim, and Brain Powerd don't count, it'll be hard not to endlessly compare the two. I have no idea why he didn't like that film other than he wasn't doing it himself.

My thoughts on this trailer is summed up mostly by ronpaul.gif.

I almost want to complain about the mecha behaving like sprites out of a SRW game, but it's been a long time since I've seen Nagano's designs put to animation.

This looks like a stand-out work when it's released, both of mechanical and character designs exude the sentimentality of a past era.

After all these years of watching out for the project and observing its periodic quietness and shift in design, that this appears to be the final product is still really disappointing (the trailer isn't too different from the one a while back). It looks poorly done and limp and nothing about its aesthetics are very appealing, even Nagano's usually jaw-dropping mecha designs. During its lengthy period of dormancy, I was wondering if the anime would ever see the light of day, but if this was end result, I wish they had spent even more time making it seem worthwhile. Maybe it really is, but it's hard to tell at this moment…

Too bad the animation looks like it's taking form the more recent flash era of animation.
