...and so, the decline of Western civilization as we know it begins... one anime convention at a time.

I some feel that this wouldn't replicate the Maid Cafes in Akiba that well, unless the attitudes of all the maids was that of unpleasant happyness and disgusting cutseyness that only Japan can seem to mass produce.
Personally, I wanna see a Tsundere Cafe instead.

What, like the cafe Konata was working at in Lucky Star? Although it was only the Haruhi character that she was playing that was tsundere.

Gawd, the very first word is wrong. "Irasshaimase" is the greeting used by every restaurant / café / eatery / whatever shop OTHER than a maid café.

Definitely tsundere FTW. I am not so sure that we'll get to see that though at AX. Funi had an Ouran replica at their stand in the exhibition hall last year.

Would this just be a cafe where girls punched you in the face and screamed at you and gave you bad service? (But deep down she is sweet?)

I said tsundere, not Rie Kugimiya.

Maid: "Your cake. Here!" (holding the plate with one hand, arm extended, face looking away from you)
Customer: "? I didn't order this cake."
Maid (blushing, still not looking at you): "Thi... this is not specifically prepared for you, I... I just have to use up those leftover ingredients in the kitchen. Don... don't get the wrong idea!"

The maids, I am not interested in. The hosts, yes. If by hosts, they mean host club hosts, I mean.
Although, aren’t hosts a sorta hush-hush red light district thing?
[I said tsundere, not Rie Kugimiya.]
Best post.
[Okaerinasaimase, Goshujin-sama. ]
Does that mean “please return, my husband”? In a creepy “you are my master, I am your servant” sort of way?

More reasons for me to not go into a con. I can't tolerate stuff like this.

Wait, so that would be special? Give or take physical violence, isn't that all fast food places?

Wow - people here actually have a lot of bad experiences/images about the maid cafe at AX. Give them a try - I know they will not be as good as the one in Japan. But at least, they try. you never know if you don't try and do not judge a book by its cover
