I need you guys help. There was a animie song soundtrack somone played for me on the way home from work one night on the bus a few years back and I was gonna get the song but I forgot. It was the most emotional soundtrack I have ever heard and a woman sang it. I know this is not a lot of info but hopefully you may be able to help me thank you!

[EDIT: Please don't boldface everything. It makes you look like an idiot. -TK]

Umm, yeah. For the most vague description I have ever seen we'll probably be able to help you, someday. How long was it? What were the instruments being used? Who was singing? Without this plus a link or something to even identify it you're pretty much in a dead end. Sorry.

Not alot of info? *chuckle*

I can only offer advice as to help track down the song.

I would try to find the song via iTunes or other music sites. Many have partial songs you can listen to in order to identify the song you heard. From there, you can probably track down the album.

You could probably help others here by quoting a few lines from the song, even if in Japanese. Some people here are fluent and can probably assist you better.

If none of the above helps, try calling the bus company. If it's licensed music, chances are they may have a record of songs they've licensed to play. It's an iffy chance, but still worth trying.

That's about the only advice I can offer you. Good luck in your quest!

Ger-rel, you really did leave us with next to nothing to go on to help you with your music search. However I'm going to give you a few suggestions to see if you can get your thoughts focused. Listen to the following songs-you should be able to find all of them on YouTube:

"Metamorphose" by Yoko Takahashi from This Ugly Yet Beautiful World
"Hemisphere" by Maaya Sakamoto from RahXephon (OP)
"Yume no Tamago (Fledgling Dream)" by Ichiko Hashimoto and Mayumi Hashimoto, also from RahXephon (EP)
"Open Your Mind" by Yoko Ishida from Ah! My Goddess
"Shiawase no Iro (Color of Happiness)" by Yoko Ishida from Ah! My Godess: Flights of Fancy

I hope this helps you find what you're looking for. I know how it can drive you crazy trying to figure out a half-remembered song.

Oh, and PetrifiedJello, while Ger-rel was on a bus when he heard the song, it was not being played by the bus company on a PA system. He said he heard it from a friend he was riding with.

That does bring up a point, Ger-rel... why not ask that friend what the song was he played for you?

My guess would be the Macross Plus theme (Voices). I know I love this track, it's filled with emotion, and it's sand by a female. Seems meet all the standards to me.

As already indicated numerous times, this really doesn't narrow it down at all. But I'm always up for a "name that tune" type of challenge. Presuming of course that the previous suggestions/guesses aren't the song you're looking for.

When you say emotional, do you mean stirring and uplifting? If so, you might be referring to Yakusoku wa Irinai from Escaflowne (BTW my apologies if I mispelled that), performed by Maaya Sakamoto and composed by Yoko Kanno. If in the middle of the song there was a Celtic/Scottish bagpipe interlude, this would be it.

Or perhaps you mean "emotional" as in haunting? Then maybe we're talking the opening theme from Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex...spine chilling but incredibly beautiful female vocals in this, a high-energy electronic number that actually contains a lot of Russian lyrics also, from what I understand. I think this is also written by Yoko Kanno...and yes, by now, you notice her name's been mentioned a lot on this thread. If anyone knows how to make "emotional" music, anime or otherwise, it's Kanno-sama; she is without a doubt a master of the art.

Then again, "emotional" could mean something that subtly touches the heart. You didn't mention the instrumentation accompaniment...if it was as sparse as just a solo piano and voice, perhaps you heard the end theme from Makoto Shinkai's The Place Promised in Out Early Days. Shinkai's work always tugs at the heartstrings, so it's no surprised the music he uses does likewise.

Hope that kinda sorta helps.
