OK, so this series is only out on fansub, and said fansubs haven't been torrented, so I doubt any of you are actually going to check it out. But I'm going to talk about it anyways.
OK, so there's this guy. His name is Koji Morimoto. You may know him from Memories and The Animatrix. A TV station asks him to make a series of thirty-second interstitials, but he decides to make them into a story. It's kinda like The Truman Show, there's an experimental family unit whose everyday life is broadcast on television. Thing is, instead of being a forgettable Jim Carrey vehicle, it's completely f#%&ing insane. And I don't mean insane in that "wacky" and "humorous" Excel Saga way, I mean ACTUALLY insane. FLCL has nothing on this. It's trippy in that wonderful Fleischer way, but far more sadistic - the girl with the fire fetish floating in the water with that stupid grin on her face flicking her lighter on and off is one of the most memorable images I've ever seen in animation. And then there's that poor, poor chicken... So yeah. I think I'm in love with Koji Morimoto, and this is my favorite of his (not as utterly bizzare as the 'Aerial Bar' segment of the Digital Juice compilation, but he's also got a lot more time to build up a "story" here). |
