well, already saw the first ep, but I am going to watch it again through Funi. And Im going to forget the fansubs and just watch the rest of the series through them as well (assuming they stream the entire series). Dang, anime distribution has come a long way!

The timer on the site is still counting down to noon EST/11am CST (which was what was originally announced).

I feel like I just can't watch this.

I've become so used to the damn english dub that hearing it in Japanese feels...wrong somehow. It's just like Code Geass; I can't hear Guilford without Liam O'Brian anymore.

I can still imagine with the subtitles and the sound off, i guess.

Listened to the OP and ED, though; me like.

So its not in English? I'll only listen to the English audio because that is how I watched the first two seasons. But at least Funimation is doing this legally, unlike Crunchyroll.

Same here. I adore the FMA dub, especially Ed's voice and many others x3

But I'm still going to watch the sub.
And Funi, you are made of awesome <333

Crunchyroll isn't doing anything illegal anymore from what I understand. They get permission for everything they stream.

ANN: Please stop using a huge variety of time-zones when you're talking about time, it's confusing, and very annoying, I guess CT stands for Central Time, but how am I supposed to know what the hell that is?

Please just change all times to GMT/UTC so everyone can work out their own time from that.

Correct.

Actually, CR was about 90% legal in the past too - which is why they have so many exclusives right now. Everyone just thought they were not legal.

Yeah, but it doesn't change the fact that they used to pirate anime. For them to suddenly "go legal" doesn't really redeem them. The added factor that their quality still sucks, they still ask ridiculous prices for rubbish anime, and they ban other countries just overall makes them a very poor business.

Funimation is at least a proper licensor, but even they fall down when it comes to offering anime at a standard that's acceptable. I still don't understand why they continue to tentatively offer less-than-best quality streams rather than the HQ Downloads that have become easily done. Not to mention, they have blocked fansubber efforts with NO alternative, or managed to completely and foolishly kill off any potential popularity of their properties using their C+Ds. And of course, they have blocked countries as well - asking for fansubbers to stop and then only letting Americans view their products is just not acceptable, no matter how much they try to justify it.

Definitely, they've made progress, but they're still holding back at a point I thought they would have realised it's not good enough. Or maybe they have found a compromise in the fanbase with laughably low standards - even then, they need to stop hurting those who expect better.

I'll be interested to see how it goes, though. 4 days is a silly number from any business standpoint, I have to say.

I think funimation isn't offering HD downloads because, well, a lot of people wouldn't buy the DVDs whenever they do come out if they already had a high quality version on their hard drives (not saying everybody is like this but a lot of people are).

And I assume the funimation stream is going to be limited to the US only as well... I think it's more because they don't have the license for the show outside the US.

And I'm actually pretty impressed with Crunchyroll -- I used to be a hater, but then I tried it, and the 720p streams are surprisingly good. Yes, you do have to pay a membership fee, but it's cheaper than Netflix, and yes, it's mostly US only, but again, I think it's because Crunchyroll only has the US license... and as for "rubbish" anime, I thought Hayate, Shangri-la, and Skip Beat were pretty decent...

I'm pretty sure CR is all legit now. And it can't be help with the region coding that fans are left out. They've explained and other anime representatives have already explained why other countries can not see the streams at this time. Blame digital media distribution laws or your country for not working with japan or CR to bring it to their regions.

And honestly you really can't imagine why the quality is the way it is for now? Bandwidth. For companies they don't get the option to just pay a monthly fee. Big networks or sites that actually run on servers are often clocked their bandwidth and charged by the ammount of data sent or recieved. Or they are capped at an amount and any excess amount is billed to them, usually at a different rate. It's easier for them to maintain and steam 25 mb to 100 mb episodes to hundreds of thousands of people then to stream 150+ mb or higher while still keeping it FREE. OMG what is wrong with fans now a days! ITS FREE. Plus its freakin legit so if some narc wanted to charge you a wad of cash for your viewing or downloading illegal digital media they couldn't BECAUSE ITS FREE AND LEGAL. Honestly some of you get as emo as those guys who just rip CR streams. It really doesn't seem to reach some fans at how illegal fansubs really are. At the time being still a nesscary evil but we are trying to move away from that. For the time being those Narcs will sit on their hands until streams and distribution gets to a stable and quality point.

Honestly condemning CR for its origins is pretty naive now a days. Especially when it comes to technology and the internet. Alot of programs, sites, and tools of the internet have evolved from less then nobler origins. Heck! Look at the anime industry itself! Some companies and alot of the workers in the business were 1) inspired by fansubbers to do anime 2) discover or review shows from non-legal sources or 3) alot of them WERE fansubbers.

Japanese and americian studios just saw an opportunity to legalize one of the bigger hubs for stream rather then issue a mass C & D and shutdown the site. From what I read or seen CR was approached with the offer. Not a desperate attempt for them to stay online and not get in trouble.

In any case I can hear the collective groin of the fansubbers. I'm sure some thought they found themselves another long series to fuel their egos and create their dramas. Honestly if so many of you new fansubber groups are gonna be so emo or you fans so spoiled that you attack fansubbers, then I'm glad we get these streams even if they aren't as good as a download. And damn you Dattebayo. I enjoyed your stuff and support you guys but damn, You guys know you changed the fansubbers into this. Ya spoiled the fans.

Actually, most of Crunchyroll's anime is streamed outside the U.S. to other countries, as well.
It's just that certain regions like The Phillipines, particular European nations, Singapore and other asian nations are kind of plagued with territorial distribution by their own native publishers that makes it hard for the Japanese creators/publishers to give Crunchyroll the digital rights for those regions without practically handing over sole international ownership of the series to Crunchyroll (which would be a ridiculous expectation by any party).

Also, I feel that Natsume Yujincho, Ristorante Paradiso, Saki, Last Exile, La Corda d'Oro, Time of Eve and many other "legally provided" Crunchyroll anime are much more than "decent" and the furthest thing from being mere rubbish. Wink
