Anyone here got their Zeta box set...I've been hearing rumors that its Dubtittled..meaning instead of translating the series..they use the english script as a subs..its like watching a show with close captions for the hearing impared....I've been really disappointed with Bandai lately...they screwed up on Ghost in the shell...still haven't recieved my vol 2 replacement disk..they delay Zeta ( I lost count how many times), I heard that the OP is cut, then now im hearing that its Dubtittled...my box doesnt arrive till next week and if its true I might as well return it, I've been patient for a long time but Bandai keeps screwing us over, whats the point of releasing a limited edition box set if your gonna delay it so many times and in the end release an edited version, the whole point is to release an authentic series true to the translation for collectors.

Now...here's my question about all this, because I've read elsewhere that indeed it is dubtitled: does it really matter? Does the fact that the subtitles are pulled from what is most likely an accurate dub really so damaging to the story & character development that it ruins the quality of the box set?
The Zeta Gundam box set's flaws have, thus far, been well documented (actually...documented way too much), and its delays are no secret. However, this is probably the only Zeta Gundam release we'll ever get, and as I understand it it's not wholly intolerable at that.
Or would you rather it was released like Mobile Suit Gundam, with no subtitles at all?

Maybe the dub is so accurate it uses the exact same translation of the Japanese version, therefore its not really dubbtitled?

Yes, it really does. I don't want the words thrown together by some hack so that their dimestore "talent" can suck for 49 episodes infecting the real thing. It's bad enough it's on the disc in the first place. Any dub script is compromised more than the absolute minimum necessary simply by the nature of having to fit the flaps.

Because of course, Hajime Yatate, Yoshiyuki Tomino, and the other creators of Zeta Gundam intended its viewers to watch the show in a foreign language, with translated text obscuring a significant portion of the imagery on screen.

Oh golly gosh it wasn't made in your native language.

They did intend for the performances they helped shape to be the performances you view.

Im sorry but that is very insulting to A: a huge section of anime fandom and to B: the talanted (yes they do have talent) people who work on the dub.
Of course, jusging by your coment about it been bad enough that its on the disc in the first place makes me realize you just out right hate dubs for some reason.
Anyway, from what I've read on AoD, its a bit loose for the first couple of eps (Yes Loose, not dubtitled) but gets better from the 2nd disc onwards.

Not my fault that they're lazy. I could really care less what they think.

Were they actually talented they wouldn't have to be working at sub-standard wages non-union and hiding under stage names.
Regardless. If Zeta is indeed dubtitled, it's a slap in the face for those of us who have been waiting for it for the better part of 20 years.

I wouldn't even bother. He knows it's insulting, and that's his intent; to him, anyone that watches dubs or participates in their creation is nothing short of scum. Sword of Whedon's ridiculously extremist views on dubbing have resulted in several rather brutal "debates" in the past, which inevitably cause threads—like this one—to be hopelessly derailed.
Another one bites the dust, so to speak. How wonderful.

Oh, damn. didn't realize that.
Well, i did try to bring it back on track (by posting what I've heard about the subs on another forum) but i guess he overlooked that.

Im not against dud or hate anyone that does, I like EVA, Escaflowne, tehchi, kenshin, nadesico, bebop dub. Gundam 80, 83, 08th, I can go in either direction. NOIR, rahxephon, Vandread, GTO, Please teacher, FMP, gundam seed sub. I have over 300 dvd animes and i collect anime. My rant is that the product i waited for through all the delays and paid $$$ was done half ass, like I said bandai has been really disapointing lately, a good example are the defects of GITS vol 1-3..3 vol in a row.

If you don't understand japanese, then get over it, there's no one "true" translation of an anime.

That's right. Speaking a foreign language myself (Lao), I can say it's difficult at times to translate some words directly into English, term for term, meaning for meaning. It just doesn't always work like that and you have to understand changes have to be made in order to fit a language that can be as complicated as English. Or course, English is my native language, but the whole translation bit still applies.
I've explained this once before in another post somewhere, but I can't remember what I said. If any of you have questions, feel free to ask me and I'll try to answer it to the best of my memory.
