That may be, its a move in the right direction though...streaming globally one hour after airing (and then using a DtO+physical media release model) is imo the way to go for the future. I'll have to agree on pricing though, it would be better to watch for free at MQ (with ads).
Not only such a system could make fansubs completely irrelevant, but it gives a lot of options to the fan for supporting the industry (via ads, a subscription system, downloads-->later discount on physical media etc)... |

Nothing will ever make fansubs irrelevant unless they offer HD h264 mkv's of an episode for free but we all know that will never happen. All this means is people are just going to take the subs from the CR shows and put them on a better quality video and distribute it for free like they've done with every other show CR has so far put up. |

Shangri-La will be the perfect replacement for Natsume Yuujinchou! Range Murata's character designs are stunning as usual. Can't wait!

Ah good, I had heard some speculation that Shangri-La was going to be on CR (the webpage having an English version was a big tip off) and I look forward to watching it. Still watching the delayed version though, I don't mind the wait if it saves me money and is legal.

Damn, I was hoping that the La Corda D'Oro anime would get licensed for a DVD release. I have mixed feelings about CR and its ilk. While it's all good and legal now, I still can't add any of their shows to my DVD collection until a distributer gets hold of 'em....

For Japan? Don't count on it. The chances of any Japanese company allowing CR to stream any content within Japan is basically zero. Even the indy companies don't allow that. |

Well, this is not a topic to discuss these issues, but basically, we are saying the same thing. In the future we will have internet HQ streaming (or TV) services (its inevitable from the technology standpoint) that will enable the fan to watch for free (with ads, personalised or not) or via a subscription service the content online, and then choose from one or more buying options for having a permanent copy (non DRM DtO files - physical media (with extra dubbing or not)- permanent HQ streaming rights to said content so that owning a digital or physical copy becomes completely irrelevant etc). Distributors and content creators will have both the speed and quality advantage, fans would have a way to watch content subbed in their own language 1 hour after first airing (or even simultaneously, there are no limits), AND the opportunity to help the industry/creators much more efficiently. Will fansubs die? Hell no (I certainly don't intend to stop fansubbing in my native language). Will they become more irrelevant? Yes they will. Crunchyroll, GONZO, Viz etc are moving towards the right direction. It will take time for the industry to change though (My best estimates are 5-7 years, provided there is true resolve to change the current highly bureaucratic and inefficient distribution system in Japan. Sth tells me that the market crunch is already helping on that department)... 
Sorry for the off topic. Now regarding Shangri-La, Murata + Ohnogi will definitely help to produce a good sci fi series (I'm a fan of both). There are some problems of course (the GDH crunch, budget constraints, the definite plan for the series to try and cater to niche otaku ecchi needs - not as much as SW though, and the sad fact that GONZO did not even try to employ/use Kenichi Yoshidas' already completed work for the title (he is a fan of the book). sha01_03 sha05_06 sha07_08 sha09_owarii I'm crossing my fingers for a good outcome though, you could say that this is the make or break title for the new GONZO. |

This came at just the right time since I've been getting into the La Corda manga.
HOWEVER, I really, really, really don't like watching streaming anime. I like my high quality video thank-you-very-much. I have issues even watching fansubs on my computer because it's not very comfortable. Also, I have a fairly high speed connection, but I still get hickups every now and then and... I really, really don't like watching streaming anime. But it doesn't seem there will be a DVD release for this series? Also, it seems it's only going to be available to crunchyroll's subscribers? (Seeing as I really, really don't like watching streaming anime, the last thing I want to do is pay for it.) TL:DR; Wahh, it's not fair, I wanna watch La Corda but Crunchyroll sucks!
