They are OK, somewhat of a DT and In Flames ripoff, but they've got some nice songs. I personally like their techno influences, and the "Easy Do Dance" cover is brilliant.

I usually don't like screamo stuff (I find it to be a bad attempt at metal). But Blood Stain Child isn't to bad, I find them to be like a cambo of the few good parts of screamo with Rammstein. I think the use of techno helps their sound. I don't like them as much as other Japanese rock artists like Maximum the Hormone, but they're ok.

I think you've got it backwards. BSC is an actual metal band (or at least trying to be ). An almost direct imitation of late Dark Tranquility. MTH, on the other hand, is screamo punk.

No Blood Stain Child comes off as very screamo to me. I have a set idea of Metal. Unless it meets the standard of what I think is metal (Black Sabbath, Cannibal Corps, Slayer, System of a Down, Mushroom Head, Sepultura, Rammstien, Iron Maiden, Maximum the Hormone, ext.) then it's not Metal in my eyes. They come off like Bullet for My Valentine. Also, Maximum the Hormone is not screamo, they are punk influenced though (of course all recent metal groups are).

MTH are more or less screamo, and, FYI, screamo implies punk influence: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Screamo
MTH are generally classified as hardcore punk though, which imo is not too far from screamo. BfmV is melodeath or metalcore, but in general not great. BSC definitely fits under "metal", since it's almost a direct offshoot from the European melodeath scene. For comparison: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MVR6L8pCaLk and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qt3Dx6mXKUs Black Sabbath is more like rock, but I guess you could classify them under very early metal. Also, this:
is a pretty ridiculous statement. Sure, there's a veeery distant relationship, but in most cases you can't even hear it. As for your list, it seems most heavily weighted towards industrial, alternative and the like. The genre is much more broad, and also includes, but is not limited to, folk (Korpiklaani, Finntroll, Cruachan), power (Edguy, Rhapsody, Symphony X, Helloween, Stratovarius etc.), black (Ragnarok, Gorgoroth, Immortal etc.), doom (Sunn O))), Lacrimas Profundere, Unorthodox), goth (Samsas Traum, Lacrimosa, Tristania, Sirenia), etc. |

Actually screamo implies an emo influence. Sure emo is a "sub genre" of punk (a crap one at that) but it's a hard line to draw. Bullet for My Valentine is not metal at all, I hate it when people say they are. They are screamo, which means not metal in my book. Melodeath is hit and miss with me (Children of the Bodom= good, In Flames=bad). Black Sabbath is the origin of metal. They have direct links to Heavy Metal, Death Metal, and Doom Metal. And yes most recent metal groups are influenced by punk. That's what thrash, death metal, and grind core are products of. It's not a bad thing, I love what metal is becoming (aside from things like slipknot).

"Metalcore" is kind of like the definition of "crap metal". It's still metal though, technically. In Flames is hit-and-miss, but they had some good stuff. CoB is more like a strange blend of a few different styles, so they don't really fit into one or the other.
Just like I posted, yes, there's the remote connection to punk, either directly or through heavy metal, but very few recent bands have actually been directly influenced by punk. It also implies little to no connection to modern punk. |
