Make sure that all your titles get warning labels, or you could be involved in a lawsuit like Evanescence.[/url]

Which is why anime will never sell in Wal-Mart because they don't consider it family oriented. I have never seen a single anime DVD anywhere in any Wal-Mart in several regions.

I've been to Wal-Mart in Colorado Springs, CO (1); Amarillo, TX (3); Bowie, TX (1); Dallas, TX (2); and Shreveport, LA (2).

Eh, the one near me sells the usual DBZ, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Yuu Yuu Hakusho stuff, with random movies (Millennium Actress, Metropolis, AKIRA, Ghost in the Shell), and random volumes of Rurouni Kenshin & Ghost in the Shell: Stand-Alone Complex. Hell, last time I was there, they even had a copy of Paranoia Agent volume one on sale. Razz

It also seeks damages of up to $74,500 for each of the thousands of people who bought the music at Wal-Marts in Maryland.

Isn't frivolous litigation fun! Laughing $74,500 just for being subjected to the f-word? Then I guess my dad owes me a huge paycheck.

The kids are going to hear those words some time, whether their parents like it or not. Target also carries some anime, although not much, although its more mature than Wal-Mart's selection. I was pretty shocked when I saw Captain Herlock for sale in their.

Geez, what a bunch of nazis. I've never been to a Wal-mart (there's only a Target where I live), but I assume that they sell R-rated movies (I hope). If so, why not anime? Oh, I forgot: it isn't American. Rolling Eyes

Correction, its animated. And everything animated must be for kids. Anything that breaks this rule would cause your average soccer mom's head to explode.

And the average soccer mom would go sue crazy if she knew what was in the average anime if she saw her kids watching it, and they bought it from Wal-Mart.

I shop semi-reguarly in Amarillo and of the two Wal-Marts there DO carry Anime (if there's a third store in that area, it must be in Canyon, or another close town officially, because there are only two in Amarillo "officially"). Actually, the first place I ever saw Cowboy Bebop's Best Sessions to actulaly buy off the shelf was at the Wal-Mart on the west side Amarillo. BTW, they also carry Anime at the new Super Wal-Mart in Dumas, TX, and the three Wally Worlds (local slang name for Wal-Mart) in SW Kansas now (which is the area I actually live in).

Of course the selection at every Wal-Mart I've seen Anime in is pretty poor, with extremely random title selections, but they do have Anime DVD's for sale. On the other hand, the one and only Target in this area never has Anime titles. I've also yet to find any at the Target in west Amarillo but there's a Best Buy across the street (the closest one to where I live, actually), so that could be part of the reason why they don't have it in there.

::reads article::

Interesting! It reminds me of something. I bought my Ghost in the Shell Stand Along Complex Disk 3 at my local Wal-Mart. The sticker on it said "13 UP" but when it rang through the register it threw up a <is customer 17+? yes/no> alert. I thought that was odd but when I got home I discovered that on the back of the disk it actually had a "17 UP" warning, instead of the one on the sticker.

I had wondered at the time why that was going on and the article is englightening on why that may have happened. Yet I've bought at least one other title at Walmart that threw off a similar alarm (the first Stargate SG1 DVD to be exact), so I'm not sure Wal-Mart doesn't usually sell the higher rated stuff, at least in my area. From the looks of this, this seems to be a very specific case of a CD having no labling and no cash register system warning on it but the entire lawsuit seems petty IMO Confused .

Ok, you must not know about the new Wal-Mart that was built over there by the Will Rogers Range Riders Rodeo on Tascosa Road and Amarillo Blvd. The other two of course are 45th and Coulter and I-40 and Grand.

They are also building a super center in Canyon as well, however, I've never seen anime in any Wal-Mart I've been into, but maybe I haven't looked hard enough.

a little off topic, but...
please tell me that I'm not the only one here who's rather morally oposed to using wal-mart (because of how they treat their employees, their stockers, ect.)?

and suing over the f-word is a bit, well, fucked Rolling Eyes

...its a strange country that we (most of us here, anyways) live in

I think the posibility of anime getting banned at Wal-Mart is pretty feasible. It will probably just take something along the lines of a hackneyed 60 Minutes segment, or goofy article in one of the more read New York newspapers. Remember when they used to sell comic books in Wal-Mart? Well, they used to a very long time ago untill they decided comic books weren't in line with "Wal-Mart's values." The ban has been in place for years now.

Good grief! That's out to he*l and gone IIRC Shocked. :looks at map: No, not exactly where I was thinking of but I never take Amarillo Blvd when I come to town (I follow the 335 Loop west, around to Soncy (and no, didn't know they'd built a new Wal-Mart there Smile ).

Well one of the problems with Wal-Mart is they don't have anything in more than a couple specific sections, so the Anime is scattered all over the place in the general DVD area. Also, half the time things aren't any sort of order I can make out. I think the reason I even noticed the Bebop set was because I saw the cover out of the corner of my eye and stop to investigate.

Anyway, I don't depend on Wal-Mart for my Anime source. It is just too hit and miss. Unfortuntely, my local Hastings are just about as bad and the problem pretty much starts at the store ordering level and gets worse Mad. While they are price competitive on many titles, they have a computer system that seriously s*cks. One example was my recent adventures in trying to get the next couple of Gundam SEED disks. The stores computer system having all of the Mobile Suit Gundam shows being listed as only Mobile Suit Gundam... and there show subtitles (they cut off the individual show names) Rolling Eyes. They had 74 titles in the computer and it took the help and myself at least five minutes to figure out which one was Gundam SEED 4 & 5 to order and then I expect them to show up at least a few days, if not several weeks, after next weeks release date, because that's how all my special orders tend to turn out from this store Confused Mad Evil or Very Mad

The last time I went into a Hastings was when I was around 8 yrs old (that was 20 years ago).

That Wal-Mart on Tascosa Rd was finished back in July. I like it better than the other two stores (it's more open than the others).

Although I am in Shreveport, LA, stationed at Barksdale AFB, I do occasionally go home to where my parents live, 8 miles east of Canyon, TX. (near South Washington and Hunsley Rd)

I live on the west coast, and trust me, WallyWorld is a common slang everywhere.
