Well deserved! The best Shojo-manga there ever was. Classic.

Congrats, Ikeda-san. Now maybe Viz will finally release this sucker here? I know. A guy can dream.

I'm kind of hoping CMX will pick it up, since they've been releasing a few of my old favorites, like Swan and From Eroica With Love.

But isn't the licensing situation a little shaky? Versailles no Bara was released in the US in the eighties in a very limited way, as a teaching aid, I believe. Does anybody know whether that license has yet expired?

Congrats to Ikeda!
I just want the manga or anime here in some form already. It's a crime that it seems we're the only country without it.
Wasn't that new movie supposed to be out last year or something?

Yay! I'm so happy that she got it
I just wish some American publisher would pick up the license. I can see why they would hesitate because of its age, but they've published older. and of course I'd buy it in a heartbeat, even if it was priced at 15 or 20 dollars per volume
Maybe if Toei animation ever finishes the remake movie and it becomes a smash hit, then maybe there'll be more of a market for an English release?
and as for the license for the teaching aid made in the 80s, I imagine that it's long gone. since it's been out of print for almost 20 years. but I could be wrong.

She well deserved it.
P.S. If you like Ikeda's manga try Orpheus no Mado too, imho it's one of the greatest manga ever made, a masterpiece!

Wow, that seems like an incredible honor I keep meaning to read or watch Rose of Versailles; this only increases my interest.

La Légion d'honneur?!
I seriously cannot congratulate the artist enough. I have always thought it was awesome that France has been so willing to give foreigners this award, too, and now I have no more excuses for my having not read this series yet. I want to see this released Stateside, too, so I can buy it!
