Restoring Box Sets

I have quite a few older box sets from back when I did not really give them the appropriate amount of care and now have scuffs along the edges and such.

Would anyone know what, if any options might be viable for fixing these box sets? I've personally thought about simple things like taking a black sharpie to corners or edges of black boxes for cosmetic touch-ups but I'd like to see what ideas might be out there before doing anything permanent such as that.

In my experience with old things in general and what they're worth, a good rule of thumb is NEVER touch up vintage things, it ruins the value. There are exceptions obviously, but I'm not so sure that anime is one of them.

Now, if you plan on keeping them forever and don't care about the value, I suppose there's really no reason not to Razz

Eri94 is more or less correct however. Restoration may not increase the value (if that's what you're aiming for) and very well may harm the value.

Also be aware that your touch-up may make the boxes in question look worse. If you want to err on the side of caution, don't bother.

I appreciate the thoughts in regards to value. I've done some museum work back in the day so I have a good understanding of how restoration can damage value.

Luckily for me, there are two things. Firstly, I'm not as concerned with the future value. I'm concerned with the look for my display. Secondly, my museum experience has given me the understanding of how to do work which is reversible.

I appreciate the cardboard link. It has given me some ideas. I think I'll check with my old conservation professor and see what she might suggest though she tends to work on stuff which is quite a bit older.
