And now because of one perverse moron anyone who works for a comic/manga company anywhere in the world now has to worry about being called a pedophile &/or pervert. (well worry about 10X more so then usual anyway.)
But yeah this is just....kinda sad. Not surprised at all if the guy gets fired and ends up a homeless bum, after he serves his time in jail or public service or what not. I know that may sound mean, but yeah, seriously, c'mon, somebody has been watching/reading/Drawing? waaay to much Hentai.
Also doesn't do the industry or the fans any good at trying to prove their all not like this guy. I may not live in Japan buy I know its human nature to sensationalize negative stuff like this. Heres hoping it doesn't get blown out of proportion and actually affect the publisher the guy worked for.
(But then again maybe i'm just over thinking things.)

Otaku reputations have been irreparably damaged by Tsutomu Miyazaki anyway, there's no recovering from what that guy did.

No, he is not a teacher, they will nail him to the wall. He probably didn't pay her enough and she turned him in

If the exchange was mutual, then yes that's all that should happen. If it wasn't, if it was actual physical harassment, then he should be prosecuted.
The main question is: was it consensual? Did she flirt with him, did she accept his embrace, offer to date (enjo kousai), etc? I'm not talking about the law, I'm referring to the ethics of the situation. The fact that she's in high school (so either 16, 17, or 18) isn't really pertinent, as it should be no different than if she were in college. It is the first question that makes all the difference, since that determines true criminality, not this "indecency" charge which tells us nothing
And if it was real harassment, a much more efficient and proportionate punishment that's harsher while still being fair, giving him a chance is something akin to hammurabic law: she should be given the chance to just kick him hard in the nuts with boots or have someone else do it, and that would be the end of that. No time wasted, no money wasted on incarceration.

I agree firmly with the above posts. I will also add that this is speculation right now. The facts of the case will come later. Let's not try this in the court of anime fan opinion.

Quote: | The 40-year-old suspect Junichirō Tanaka is accused of embracing the alleged victim from the back, touching her chest, and other acts. |
This doesn't read like it was consentual to me.

To be correct, the victim is nothing like child. This fact does not make the suspect's acts legal, but it does not make him paedophile.

Well, since I obviously don't know how justice is exercised in Japan, all I have to say is this: I hope the courts will allow Mr. Tanaka to have a fair trial.
