I'd love to have a book with Range Murata's illustrations in it. The only two I know of are "Rule", which I'm told is mostly his clothing designs, and "futurythm."

The only website I can find that seems to sell these books is Animebooks.com, but it doesn't really tell me much about them. For instance, I wanted to know if either of these books contained any Last Exile or Blue Sub no. 6 illustrations.

Are there any other retailers of Murata's artbooks?

I was pleasently surprised to receive futurythm for christmas.
Here's the lowdown for anyone who cares:

The first half of the book is color illustrations on white backgrounds. One clothing design of a girl sitting on a chair closely resembles the clothing officers wore on the bridge of the Sylvanna (from Last Exile).

The middle contains an illustrated story (in english) entitled "The Egg Story". Then there's two pages of Murata's "discography" - some of his other publications. Following that is about ten or so pages of full-color illustrations, two of which are of Blue Sub no.6 (there is an especially beautiful one of mayumi holding tetsu).

The last half or so is sketches--well not really sketches, just colorless character designs. They're full of detail, just lacking color. A few of them are from Blue Sub too.

There is very little writing at all; the sketches have japanese written underneath them, but that's about it.

I hope they realease an artbook dedicated totally to Last Exile. I loved the uniforms from that show.

Hey, I'm not sure if this will interest you or not, but have you seen Yamato USA's mini figure collection based on Futurythm? A set would probably run about $25 to $30 though they'll be sold on individual cards.

I'm not into collecting figurines, but thanks for the post Emerje. I was initially looking for a good coffee table book.

When you find a link on that Last Exile artbook Abel, hook me up. Wink

This makes me sooo happy. I adore the artwork from Last Exile as well, particularly the character and costume designs but even down to the ships and machinery (which I hardly ever notice in an anime). This show was beautifully designed. I have been hoping for an artbook too, since there's no manga and I really would like any hard copy collection of the artwork. I'm glad to know that there's a book out there!

By the way Abel, do you have any idea what the price for the artbook might be? (so excited! Anime hyper !!)

The book is ¥3200 (¥3360) so it will depend on the exchange rate. The typical price at the current exchange rate would be about $48.00.

Hi Prophet,

I'm a huge fan of Murata-san's work!

Range Murata - refutu [r]hythm
So far the best:
http://akadotretail.com/shop/shop_showbook.php?id=4898298982

They are right about the clothing thing. (wish I could afford them!)

Range Murata - rule

Fa documenta Range Murata
http://akadotretail.com/shop/shop_showbook.php?id=4198617716

I also recommend several other works that he is featured in:

Range Murata Edition Full Color Comic & Art Book - robot Vo. 01
http://akadotretail.com/shop/shop_showbook.php?id=4898297773

Character Design Bible (Murata is periodically featured)

I used to have many of the doujins he produced, but they've been long gone now...

I purchased Spheres vol. 1 and vol.2 as well as Spheres plus- Last Exile doujinshi from animebooks.com this week. I've only skimmed them, but all three seem to have quite a bit of focus on Last Exile. (They are advertised as Last Exile doujinshi.) They are all character sketches from the show, but I think there may be a couple of color illustrations as well- I'll go through them more thoroughly today Smile .

If you're interested, I think animebooks still has limited quantities in stock. Spheres vols. 1 and 2 are $50 each, and Plus is $30.

I've seen other websites, including ebay, that carry his books, but they are usually high priced or unavailable/out of stock.

I was browsing ebay the other day and noticed there was someone selling (preorders) for the newest Range Murata Last Exile doujinshi called Spheres ++. They were only asking for $25, or around that much, if I recall.

But back to the artbook Abel was talking about...I'm assuming this is more than character sketches and will be a TV animation artbook of sorts with color illustrations and/or stills from the anime in it. If anyone can confirm anything about the content that'd be great. Very Happy
