Did they really use the Red Hot Chili Peppers as the theme for Death Note 2 or was I watching an edited video?

Yes. They did use Dani California.

Actually Dani California was used for the first movie unless they did indeed use it for the second movie. The Japanese release used Dani California for the first movie and then Snow (Hey Oh!) for the second movie.

Dani California was the opening for the second movie. Snow (Hey Oh) was the ending theme for it.

Huh. You know, this is the first Death Note related thing I've posted on on ANN... I watched the preview for it on YouTube, and some idiot was upset because they used music that wasn't in Japanese... He was mad about something like that, anyway...
