Agreed with the story here definitely. I'm still working on my review right now so hopefully, they pull off something extraordinary in the final episodes. (which I kinda doubt at this point right now)

I've also not read the manga but the fight scenes were fluid.

This series definitely had potential and I did admit that the very first episode got me hooked. However as of now, my expectations are bit low from what this rushed series has become.

I read the manga way before the series and Rebecca's review is spot on. There is no way they could present the manga, which is still running, in 12 episodes without both cutting things and cramming the left overs with a crowbar into such little space. Most of the emotion has been lost and the characters are hollow clones of what was in the manga. It looks decent and had a lot of potential, what a waste. It could have been done in 24 episodes, but probably would have needed an original ending. Really, it was probably too soon to make the manga into a show. Unless they just made the show to drive manga sales.

C+, eh? I would give it a straight C at best.

But other than that, I agree with the analysis of the good and bad points. It is a well-drawn and well-animated series (I am really digging the character designs), but it also has massive pacing problems that hurts our ability to connect with the characters.

It is rarely a good sign when someone who has not read the manga can tell that the anime adaptation is lacking.

That's the same problem I had with the Future Diary anime. I love Future Diary as an intriguing, compelling and creative story with incredible plot twists and turns. But it feels so painfully clear they tried squeezing too much from a 12-volume manga into a 26-episode anime (for comparison, only the first 6 volumes of the Fruits Basket manga fit into a well-paced 26-episode story), and a lot of it came across rather choppy. It's not always great that they end/stop the anime version's story before the manga's, but this alternative style of adapting can be more discouraging, wishing for a better adaptation or that someone would license the entire manga so we can get the full story.

Am I the only one who doesn't have a single negative thing to say about Zetman? I'm up to episode 10 myself and I think it's getting better.

At least Future Diary got 2 full cours compared to Zetman who is not only longer then Future Diary but is also getting 1 cour.

It should have been at least 52. I mean the first episode is 6 chapters condensed to one episode.

Otherwise, the fight scenes are really good.

Because we have senses and deign to use them. Therefore when we watch bad things we kind of notice. This show has bad elements, so we notice.

Take a recent event in episode nine. spoiler[Tanaka comes back from her parents and texts Jin, who promptly drops everything (including some major stuff) and rushes back to his apartment. He meets Tanaka there and she cries and they have a tender moment and she says she loves it at his place and he says he always be there for her (or words to that effect). They then kiss.] It sounds all legit, but because there had been so little interaction between them it felt like it came out of left field. There wasn't nearly a good-enough foundation in which to build that sort of scene on. And that's just one example amongst many that I could choose of how the too-fast too-choppy pacing completely ruins the relationships, the tension, the believability, you name it. The biggest one is how Kouga puts so much stock in their childhood adventures of fighting crime but it lasted just a few short scenes. Not nearly enough to build such a huge cornerstone of the series on.

Just because someone likes what you dislike doesn't mean they don't have functional senses or are in some way handicap. Come on, a certain respect towards other peoples rights to have their opinion is expected. You can disagree with them and make a case, but implying that they are somehow a less capable person for disagreeing is unnecessary.

Belvadeer asked why everyone was so down on this show and said that they do not have a single negative thing to say about the show. I thought that after an entire review where problems in the story and pacing were highlighted and several comments in the thread further talking about the problems, that to ignore all that was just trolling. Given that they have refused to even listen to my elaboration of what was wrong because their feelings are hurt I have to say my initial assumption was close to the mark.

I do concede that I should have just reported their post instead of feeding the troll.

[Mod Edit: Disagreeing does not necessarily make one a troll, even if they're disagreeing with the review. Making such leaps is dangerous and I would advise against it. - Keonyn]

I agree with the review. Everything feels so rushed. I don't care about the characters or what happens to them. Their relationships and choices feel stale and unimportant. I'm basically only watching it for the fights, the catchy opening, and because it's short.

In my case, it's because it's doing a terrible job of compressing one of my favorite manga in 12 episodes. Lots of excellent scenes have been either cut or replaced by terrible all-new material (like anything involving Kouga's childhood friendship with Jin), and the animation and artwork are very inconsistent. It just can't replicate the feel of Katsura's beautiful artwork.

Whoa whoa, relax. I think there has been a misunderstanding here.

You know, I didn't refuse to listen to your elaboration (I did read it and everyone else's). Incidentally, I'm not a troll and my feelings weren't hurt for that matter either (you can't really read feelings through a monitor). Can I ask why you felt the need to post that rant and make me out to be some troll when I'm not one? I'm just here to enjoy the site like everyone else and I was asking a simple question.

What it looked like to me is that you were being condescending to me because you assumed I didn't read anything anyone wrote (which is incorrect). Can we please just drop the whole thing and forget it?

One thing about this did bother me. Tanaka reminds me of that annoying girl Kiriko in Skull Man who just barges in on Hayato's whole scene. To be honest, her presence is kind of annoying. Sure Konoha liking Jin would be dry cliche down pat, but I think it's better than shoving a character like Tanaka in who we're supposed to feel sorry for but can't because we're not really that emotionally invested in her nor has she had much screentime to develop beyond her main complaint (spoiler[trouble with parents isn't really a reason to sympathize that deeply with her]). So yes, I can see your point about that.
