i just saw hellsing, a really sweet vampire anime. i enjoy excessively violent anime, i was wondering if anyone could recommend any other violent and/or good vampire anime?

i would greatly appreciate it.
also, how come the box set for hellsing is so expensive? buying the episodes sepeate at target for 19.99 is cheaper.

Vampire Hunter D & Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust are good ones. I haven't really seen any other vampire anime. You might check out Requiem From The Darkness. No vampires, and not always excessively violent, but very dark and creepy.

Berserk!!! By far one of the best anime I have ever seen. If you really liked Hellsing and want the REAL story then you might want to buy the manga, it's a must have for Hellsing fans.

Dead Leaves just came out on dvd and that is probably the most violent OVA that I have ever seen but it's also hilarious. It reminds me a lot of FLCL (heh, i wonder why.. *sarcasm*)

Bastard!! is another great series which has a lot of violence. Very strange story with tons of action and fighting. I think you'll really like this one.

I havn't seen it yet but I also hear that Elfian Lied has over the top violence in it and that a lot of people who have seen it praise it. It's not out on dvd yet but you should see it in stores maybe sometime in 2005.

None of these titles have vampires in it... well I think Bastard might have a guy in it who is possibly one. But they are all great series or are said to be.

the hellsing anime is crap. Pioneer and GONZO took Kohta Hirano's masterpiece and butchered it. bastards.

Vampire Hunter D has already been mentioned, but i also recommend it, great stuff.

Blood: The Last Vampire. if you want vampires you might wanna check that out. kindof short and the plot might be missing, but the animation is damn good, Production IG did their job well. but one more drawback are the usually terrible english voice, and you cant escape them this time, they are in the sub.

Elfen Leid is DEFINITLY violent

if you really wanna go overboard with disturbing content, watch KITE

if you wanna watch something quiet violent but yet a good old masterpiece, watch Akira if you already haven't.

there is also an oldie available from Manga Entertainment called Vampire Wars. a friend of mine has seen it tells me to watch it.

and if you want literally rivers of blood, watch Evangelion if you already haven't

and thats about all i can think of right now

"Blood- The Last Vampire" is both dark and violent. Then also check out "Vampire Hunter D- Bloodlust". Both are excellent titles and must have.

Just in case the original poster is doing a Google search or something, it's Elfen Lied.

Yeah, I wasn't exactly sure how it was spelt when I posted the name and afterwards I forgot to review the name of the anime. Thanks for making that clear though.

While I am certain this will be echoed repeatedly, I recommend "Berserk" for a violent anime. Not only will it satisfy your, ahem, bloodlust, but it is a very intriguing and addicting anime.

A second option I recommend is "Now and Then, Here and There." I will admit that it has been a while since I have seen it, but I recall it being quite violent and potentially disturbing.

Heh. Guess I'll be the third person to recomend Berserk. The animation isn't what you'd call "great," but the music and compelling story more than makes up for it.

I'm telling you now, if you like dark Medieval-esque storytelling with a lot of red paint, then Berserk is the way to go. There aren't any vampires, but there are a few demons.

Also, I'd recommend an old favorite that I'm sure you've heard of, Ninja Scroll. It's a classic in my book for it's style and pacing of action. If you like feudal Japan, swordsmen, and a bunch of people and demons getting chopped up, you'll like this movie.

And finally, I'd also like to suggest my number one anime of all time, Rurouni Kenshin: Tsuioku-hen. It's not really an "action flick" per say, but it's violent where it counts. If you want something that's a dreary and tragic tale of romance and making decisions, go with this one.

Good luck on your search! Wink
