The movie came out in August where thousands of fans have already indulged in Japan. An R2 DVD release hasn't been announced yet that I know of so don't expect a DVD until early 2005. I'm guessing you're looking for a fansub, but you won't find one until the DVD comes out. If you're hoping for a US release you'll just have to wait for it to get licensed which wont haven't until the TV series gets licensed and it's anyone's guess when that'll be.

I don't think Naruto will ever be licensed because of the amount of fansub groups doing it, thus, the Japanese companies are asking quite a bit of money for it.

I don't know if thats a wise assumption. Several companies have comented that they would like to license it, but whether the price is an issue, I don't know. It would certainly be a hot product since there are so many Narutards over here.

If you look at the current formula, it will be picked up by either FUNimation or 4Kids. The company best suited for Naruto would obviously be FUNimation since they would be able to appeal to the Narutards in the same way they grabbed DBZ nuts and YYH fans.
But why can't a more traditional American anime distributor pick up Naruto like ADV or Geneon? Naruto can be used for mass-market merchandising and the only companies geared up for something like that is 4Kids and FUNimation.

And it is highly unlikely that it will be aquired by 4kids because it is much more violent than any other series they have and the treatment of Gaara when he was younger kinda shoots 4kids makin it a Saturday cartoon out of the sky.
Few weeks ago I sent a question too Geneon, Viz, Bandai, ADV, and FUNi asking them if they were in the process of aquiring it, none of them responded.

But with the money ADV's making off all of their stuff they may be able to secure the license for it...but who knows. Has it been officialy stated that the Japanese companies are asking alot for it? Right now I am starting to think it's anybody's game.

Formulas are nice, but this is a matter of money. With the price that I'm sure is being asked, I would say ADV, Geneon, Bandai, and maybe Viz are in the best position.

I really don't know all that much about how the companys work, but my guess is that they are waiting for the anime to be finished. Wouldn't make much sense to buy something that is a work in progress.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

Plenty of series have been bought part-way during production. The reason why Naruto hasn't been announced yet is because (as far as we have been told) the cost is too high, and there are negotiations going on right now.

I've said this before, it's about more than just money, it's about what the licensed company can do with it. Just shelling out the money isn't going to be enough for a show like Naruto, they're going to want it to see the same type of widespread success as it has been in Japan. That would mean it has to be on TV and has to be accompanied by merchandise sales.
Of course, that's just my oppinion just like anyone elses. If I'm right, though, then there's only three companies that could really follow through with that: Bandai, FUNimation, and 4Kids. Bandai could get it and follow through as they're their own production and manufacturing company, totally self reliant. FUNi can get it on TV easily enough and can trun to Jakks for merchandise needs. 4Kids has FoxBox for broadcasting, and can fall back on FUNi for distributions, while using a number of companies like Mattel or Hasbro for merchandise.
(Hey, isn't this another one of those speculative Naruto threads we're told not to do. )

You know, it's comment like this that makes me wonder if licening Naruto will really matter to most leeching fan. What's worst is that they act like it's tiher right as "naruto fan" to indulge in anything naruto. And if nobody has bootleg it and sub it, than it's the company fault for stopping the "fan" from indulging it. It never occur to them where these source for the fansub comes from.
I don't know why most Naruto fan expect the japanese company to produce the movie (and second movie) just for them. Sorry dude, the japanese company are producing it for the japanese naruto fan first and they plan to make money.
Perhaps people will see my rambling more as bitching and complaining because they enjoy thier free anime. Yup, I can hear the leerchs saying: "why is this guy (darkhunter) telling everyone to stop enjoying free anime". Well I"m not telling you you can't enjoy "previewing all the japanese anime for your enjoyment", I'm just saying have some respect for the people that make it. Don't act like it's your god given right to indulge in anything that you didn't legally pay for. Don't be arrogant because you can get it for free, instead be humble about it. I think it's just me because I have respect and consideration people's hard work.
