It's a shame FUNimation isn't getting a lot of votes.

Hmm, I find it a shame that TRSI, AN Entertainment and AnimEigo aren't getting more votes in the release category.

Here, here. AnimEigo does a great job. A little slow but it's worth it. AN Ent. has Guu, so next year we'll see how good a job they do, but I'm optimistic.

ADV's been around for a while, but their dubs are what make turn me away. I also don't like the subs on a lot of their older releases (before they started using the new font they have now. which I really like).
I voted Media Blasters only because Kenshin and Berserk are my #1 and #4 all-time (#2 being GTO, #3 X (TV), and Azumanga Daioh possibly at #5).
Geneon gets the nod from me for overall quality, and I feel Bandai has the best title releases.

The user should select those companies from which they have purchased anime, and then only count the % of votes a particular company got based on the total # of people who bought from that company.
Otherwise, these results are totally skewed by the most "popular" anime brands.

Yes, that would be the best way to conduct this poll, unfortunately its not within the abilities of the polling software we use.
Perhaps some day we'll run a bigger survey with similar questions, and program it in a way to only count votes from people who have purchased from that company.

I voted
Bandai for "What is your overall favorite North American anime licensor (taking into account factors such as the quality of their releases, the titles they license, their release schedule, their customer service, etc...)."
Geneon for "What is your favorite North American anime licensor in terms of the titles they license and release (not the quality of the job they do)."
ADV for "What's your favorite North American anime company in terms of the quality of their releases (Dubbing quality, subtitles, translation, DVD video quality, features, extras, DVD menus, etc...). Not taking into account how much you like the shows themselves"

For all of the ADV bashing that goes on, it seems that they're still quite popular.

Yeah, I find that quite odd. Everone bashes ADV, yet they get the most votes.

ADV. I have like, 12 DVDs out of my collection of 62 that were distributed by them.
Aside from them having a LOT of titles, I don't see why they're so great. All I have is Azumanga Daioh, Eva Platinum, RahXephon (series + movie), and Kenshin the movie.
What is it that makes them so popular?

I voted for CPM for extras solely because they do the most director's commentary tracks, something, a few years ago, I'd never thought we'd see on domestic anime DVDs.

I voted FUNimation just because they dubbed my favorite show: Dragonball Z.
Also because of Yuyu Hakusho and Full Metal Alchemist.
Although they didn't do such a good jog with Dragonball GT...

Here's me thinking that ADV's dubs are some of the best in the industry!
I'm a big fan of GTO, but the translation and dub by Tokyopop makes me want to spew. It's really that bad. The voices don't even match the characters.
With ADV, you get really good characterisation, which is missing from TP. Why? you may ask. Because ADV have some of the best VA in the business, including Tiff Grant, Monica Rial and Spike Spencer. Try Azumanga, Excel Saga or Noir for examples of good dubbing.
Okay, so some of their early stuff was a bit dodgy, but nearly everything in the last 4 years has been no worse that good (the dub, not necessarily the show (no names, Digi Charat )
