I rather enjoyed Quantum. It was short and fun. Certainly helped that it wasn't a wall of text like sign was. I also liked how it showed both the real world and the game world fully.

Quick question - why is the dub a lower grade than the sub when both were said to be equally good in the review? Just wondering...

As a huge fan of Yui Ogura, I think I'm going to buy this just to see the "Yui Yui" episodes.

It also may help that this might be the first .Hack anyone might have ever checked out, although I couldn't help but recognize some familiar faces from other series (from Newtype magazine) when they were talking about 'lost souls' or whatever.

I thought it was enjoyable, fun one-time viewing, and Hermit was undeniably cute without being blatant about it.

Fair question. It was the squeak factor of dub Sakuya that was just annoying enough to bring it down. Nothing horrific, but certainly noticeable.

Who here never played .hack past the original four games and wasn't interested in Roots? Because sad to say, I'm one of them. I don't think I'll ever play G.U. either. I'm not sure when it was exactly, but my interest in .hack disappeared over the years. On the other hand, this might change my mind.

I've only ever watched SIGN and never played the games. I thought SIGN was interesting, and I actually liked the slower pacing, but yeah, nothing else in the .hack universe has really caught my attention. This looks like a bit of fun, though. I just might check it out.

I'm probably going to buy this. I am a fan of dot hack and I found this series to be enjoyable. I doubt if I would want another full or half season dot hack series but this set of OVAs was fun for me. I think it would have worked better as 4 OVAs though.

My personal opinion I liked Trina's Sakuya better than the original. Plus this is by far my favorite installment of .hack//.

I don't think anyone is clamouring for a new full series are they? Wink

Although I wouldn't mind one, it would definitely have to change things up. The franchise has gotten waaayyy too formulaic at this point, when there is really no reason it should be. They essentially repeat a plot ad verbatim. Although this show was somewhat on the right track.

I buy just about everything with a .hack logo on it, I even pre-ordered this set and have watched it twice. Anime catgrin I like it a lot and thought the ending was actually pretty clever, it could have easily been something tragic since the franchise is no stranger to stories like that. Japanese voices seemed fine to be, the only English voice that really annoyed me was Laura Woodhull as Eri (Mary), she sounded like a little kid instead of a high school student. Her voice would have fit a moe title like K-ON!, but it felt way off next to the rest of the trio.

As far as the franchise as a whole goes, I think what it needs is a fresh start. They need to stop relying so much on the original .hackers for material and stop recycling Kite's character design in every series (Shugo, Azure Kite, Sakuya, Kite (Sora)). It's time to start over again like G.U. did. What I really liked about G.U. is that it only gave a nod to the original series and brought back a few of the original players, but was otherwise its own series with its own problems. I'd really like to see something new again with new character designs, but unfortunately the movie brings back the Kite design (and name...) and the next game seems to be G.U. based (judging by a teaser image of Haseo). One day maybe.

It was a nice movie. Not the best piece of .hack out there, but cetainly not the worst. For those of you still on the fence there is another nice review of the movie here.
