also, the increase number of overseas attendees is a bit surprising.

TAF...was that the fair that was being boycotted due to Ishihara's schmucking around with loli mangas?

Yes.

But why are they counting press as attendees? Don't they get press passes?

Anyways, that's just the size of an average con in the US.

Topic drift warning:

Actually what Ishihara did was put stronger restrictions on content for shonen and shojo manga sold in Tokyo, which has a chilling effect on the industry given the size of that market. Adult titles are not effected as they are not covered by the regulation.

I'm headed there today. Today is the first day it's open to the public. I have no idea what to expect. I've never even been to an anime con in the US.

I figure it's worth risking a half day of my vacation to check it out though. Hopefully it will be fun.
