Impressive!!! Seems like a pretty good sales move for Viz, I suppose, what with the holiday season just around the corner~ :O

Now if only they would speed up One Piece as well. I still don't get why Naruto is just dominating in popularity and One Piece is more of a cult following. Well, I know factors like the Naruto anime got better release treatment and air time. Yet I hoped manga audiences wouldn't be swayed so much by just what's shown more on TV.

Nice, now if Viz can just hurry up and get Naruto Shippuden out already, I'll be really happy.
And yeah, they could bring out the One Piece volumes faster. Though for now, I'm sticking with the Funimation boxsets, but I'll probably buy the manga someday.

Yeah Naruto gets 5-6 volumes (+ the specials) per year, while OP gets only 3-4. And know this...
It sometimes is irritating to "beg" for Viz to publish 1-2 more volumes per year.
I hope they 'll give as some joy, although I have no expectation for 2009 (or 2010).
On the other hand I also like Naruto so those are great news.

I wonder what's preventing them from doing this with their titles that they're even farther behind in. The Inuyasha manga has ended in Japan, but at the current release rate, Viz won't get around to releasing the final chapters here until 2012.

Boo, now I'll have even more Naruto volumes to put on the too-small graphic novel shelf at the store I work at. We have six copies of the most recent volume, which is far more than we need since our store doesn't really sell much manga to begin with (the only person I've seen buying manga there would be me ).
And probably the reason they can only do this for Naruto is because it sells so well that they don't have to worry about flooding the market as much as they do with other series. They've proven before that the Naruto fanbase can handle this, where as other titles might not be able to. It was a pretty risky move to try it even with Naruto.

Also another reason they could be doing this is because of the stores that sell them. I have seen Naruto in more places than just book and comic specialty stores. And since this series is so popular it is more prone to a "spontanious purchase" than other manga.

What I'm worried about is the quality of the translation.

Talk about a stressful job! Eleveen books is a ton of work, even with several other translators I am sure. Though I take comfort in knowing that at least Viz Media is receiving a incrediable profit from this series.
Hopefully the traslators won't be worked too hard, they do a fine enough job on other shonen series.

I don't read Naruto, but this sounds like a plan for Bleach. A 10 volume burst would make it current with the Japanese releases

I see a lot of sleepless nights for many translators in the near future

Well, this is great news =D I wonder if Bleach'll get the same treatment.

That explains why their other manga titles have been slow this month.
