Have you ever showed your non anime friends anime, or if they'd given up trying. Or were you lucky in to getting them to become anime lovers to.
I have tried to get my family into watching an episode of Fruits Basket each saturday and we have luckily made it a habit

A friend showing me Anime was the very reason I got interested in it! I occasionally show Anime to my friends, but only a few of them actually really enjoy it.
As for my family, despite my attempts, they just think its lame, and leave me to it. Not that I' m bothered by that.

I have no problems converting my friends to anime. I have diverse tastes and so it isn't hard for me to show them an anime that matches their tastes. I just quiz them on what they like to see and what their pet peeves are and then find a matching anime.
I had one friend who liked quick moving, action heavy, pretty stuff. So I showed him Code Geass. Now he is more upset with Bandai than I am! He just can't get his Lultz fix fast enough.
I had another friend who liked character based stuff but was obsessed with endings. He absolutely hated committing himself to a show that didn't have an ending, probably because it wasn't renewed for another season. I tossed Eureka Seven and Full Metal Panic the Second Raid at him. Problem solved.

I got my sister into anime very early on in my own fandom and lately I've been trying to get my mother interested. (She seems to like the art at least.)
I'm hoping to do more to socialize and actually develop friendships in the new year so maybe I'll have a chance to convert a heathen or too to the faith of anime in the future.

I have a few friends who got into anime because of me, I'd say about 7. But for the most part my friends think I crazy for watching anime and reading manga. Then again I have friends who got into anime before they met me or we got into anime at the same time, so it tends to even out. I have only two relatives that are into anime like me. It helps to have some one to talk to about anime at those family gatherings on holidays.

Well I haven't been successful (nor did I really try ^^) but the reason why I love anime today is because my sister showed me a show after much grumbling, and after the first one I was like... this is sooo not Yu Gi Oh. Or Pokemon. And then I stole her dvds while she was sleeping because I couldn't wait to see what happened next >__<. She didn't even have to try that hard.

I am the only otaku in my family, so alot of them ask questions concerning anime and its oddities. I have drawn some of my family members to watching certain anime. They love anything Miyazaki (then again who doesnt nowadays) My sister is also a big fan of Steamboy, but I cant say that she is an otaku...Far from it. I sometimes hear my mom watching My Neighbor Totoro by herself. LOL.
I discovered that I have a cousin that is a huge otaku. I now view her as a threat! There can only be one hardcore anime fan in this family! LOL!
I also drew some people outside of my family to do research on anime. Some became fans others, at least drew some respect for it.

I've actually gotten a few of my friends interested. Most are techy/nerdy/pervy guys (kinda like me heh) so they really go for the action/science fiction titles. I'm much more open then them honestly to more riomantic/dramatic shows but at least they watch some right? I even got 2 of them going to Otakon with me every year now heh. Also got my ex-gf into more anime. She was simply an Inu Yasha fan and I was fortunate enough to get her fully into anime beyond that one show.

Yeah, my mom lived in japan for a year in 7th grade (Lucky little...) anyway, so she was I guess somewhat familar, and tried to get me to watch Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle before my sister tried anything ^^ I think she has a respect for the artform, but if she knew how much time I spent watching anime she would just tell me to stop just the same as watching tv, computer, etc. It's kind of creepy how now that I think about it I was the last person to get into anime, yet am the most (give or take) interested in it o__O Funny how that happens.
Sorry!! Somehow I double posted. Again, sorry I don't know how that happened

I think I've tried once on a few random things on my parents, and while they both liked Metropolis, they didn't like Akira. And I could tell that my mom was bored and pretending to be interested in Outlaw Star (which can be a pretty good gateway series).
For the most part, I don't tend to try, I'll show new series to people, but they already like anime and I'm just giving them a new series. I was pretty much introduced by hearing about Dragon Ball Z, but discovered Outlaw Star on midnight Toonami which really got me into it. I suppose since I wasn't shown anime initially by another person that I don't show it to non-fans in return. I show new stuff to my more casual friends all the time though and get/give suggestions from/to them too.
I would be most likely to show it to a gamer though, since I do play a lot of games and depending on the situation, it's more likely than someone who doesn't watch TV or play copious amounts of games. If I were to become friends with someone who likes JRPGs but was unaware of anime for some reason, then I would show them anime without a doubt if they hadn't already seen a few things.

I haven't tried to get any of my friends into anime, because I know them pretty well and know they wouldn't be into it. My family pretty much looks down on my anime fandom even though my younger brother liked Evangelion and Cowboy Bebop a few years ago. My wife "hates all anime" even though she has said she tolerates "the one with the brothers" (FMA) and "the one with the goddesses" (Ah! My Goddess).
I figured a while ago that the only way to have friends that like anime is to make friends with people who are already into it. However, that has been harder than I thought it would be. I have gone to two cons this year at the advice of several people here, but it seems most con-goers travel in packs and have their own agendas, which does not seem to include friend-making.
So, so far the only meaningful conversations I've had about anime were with you fine people here on ANN.

Believe it or not, I managed to get my mom to start watching Dai-Guard with me, and she's actually been enjoying it.

I showed some friends the Bake Neko arc of Ayakashi: Samurai Horror Tales and they really enjoyed it.
Other than that, few things seem to work. Many people like Miyazaki movies, and one of my friends really enjoyed reading Claymore.
Avatar: The last Airbender, while not exactly anime, is also something many people like.
However, I wouldn't say I made anyone a real "fan", since nobody actually bought a DVD or something around those lines.

I have to say that I'm pretty much responsible for all of my friends having watched some anime at some point. I even have grand anime children. I was kind of the anime mama-san in high school. I also have friends who hid their anime watching habits just to spite me. It wasn't much to their advantage because I then recommended things they liked once I found out. As far as my parents they are a lost cause. My mom says nothing which is fine. Whenever I'm watching it my father makes a point of coming into the room and making strange guttural noises at me which I might point out always sound more Chinese than Japanese. By far my happiest bragging point is the fact that my anime collecting is about to become a joint effort. Between mine and my fiances anime tastes we are bound to have a very ecclectic collection. I some how don't think I'll get him to watch Ai No Kusabi any time soon though.

I put up a good try, but it failed miserably. Like a couple of you all, my parents think it's lame. It's noottt like their stubborn or anything ... it's just that they don't feel like they "have the time to" or anything. So whatever right, i dropped it. My family just won't budge one inch. My brother, he watches Dragon Ball but will not admit that it's anime. He knows it though, he knows it. Now actually i did get one of my friends to watch it now that i think about it, but it wasn't because i had any knoweldge of anime at the time. I didn't convince him because anime sounded appealing, i convinced him because i was going to watch Elfen Lied, and i said "hey what the beep right, you wanna come watch this with me" he says "sure" and we've been hooked ever since. But we're not friends anymore, i'll leave that story up to your imagination. So bascially i have not convinced any of my friends to watch anime due to anime itself. I consider it a bummer, but i think looking back on it, i'm glad i didn't convince my family to watch anime. Then they'd be buyin' series that i want and ... it'd just be a bit too much.
