What if you try to return it after the store return policy expires? I buy a lot of movies that I havn't even opened. Elfen Lied Volume 3 for example is just sitting there....I just opened it and its not scratched. But if it was I would have been screwed because I probably threw away the receipt. What if the case becomes a problem in the future.

Say you are moving and your DVDs fall. Thats what happened to me last time I moved. The box where I stored my DVDs opened from the bottom. An Initial D case broke but the DVD was still where it had to be, in the middle, and my DBGT Super 17, the DVDs fell from the center and got scratched (Still worked but what if it was worst). The Initial D case broke but the DVD remained unharmed, Initial D has good cases. DBGT case broke and DVDs were lose in broken case and got scratched, they have those crappy cases.

Do you guys really think that the extra money being saved from the cheap cases is going to go towards acquiring more anime. I can almost guarantee you the CEOs and higher employees will be receiving bonus checks with the money they saved. Richer get richer...

Well in your case joel your out of luck of returning it to the store you got it from. What you can do ,however, is go online get in contact with the company of the dvd and tlak with customer service and see what they can do. If your a skilled talker or lucky enough or prehaps both, they might replace the DVD.

I am unsure though if the would charge a Shipping and Handling (that's up to the company) but it's better then buying the DVD all over again in most cases. But this is all up to the company if they are willing to send you a new dvd or case and charge any fee. It is also your choice to talk to them. If you think it's a big issue bringing it up to them but don't just talk about it on forums, send letters, talk to them through the phone, most company's are inclined to listen and give their reasonings on the choice of the casings. But to me I haven't had a problem and every disc that got damage I had replaced and not just at the store. I had a problem with a Robotech DVD it was past the return date so I called up customer service which I got off there website contacted them and they replaced it.

Why not all DVD distributors just have one standard for DVD cases, like for video games cases?

Not all video games have exact same disc holdings, for one thing. But I do believe that would be nice idea but like I said in ealier post It isn't going to happen by just typing it into the forums. You need to send letters, chat online with companies or by phone, and you need more then one person to do these things. And of course you need to hear there response to the matter. Maybe they have a reason for using different cases, maybe there in competetion with other companies who are willing to pay more for the casings while others are not. The only way to know is to talk to them.
