In terms of anime closing credits, here are my top 5 personal favorites:

1. "Watashi ga Soba ni Iru" (Key the Metal Idol)- A song with powerful music and vocals that flow quite well with the imagery of gears and machine parts in the background as pictures of Sakura and Key are in the foreground to show the friendship the two share.

2. "Yume no Tamago" (Rahxephon)- A haunting musical performance with serene vocals flow along well with images of Reika and Quon that do a good job of showing off what mystery there is with the two characters.

3. "Gravity" (Wolf's Rain)- I've never completed watch of the series, but the ending sequence to Wolf's Rain always stuck out for me. The music was slow and moving with lyrics depicting the journey of the wolves quite well. The simple image of having a wolf slowly running with a full moon in the background also went along well with the journey for this series.

4. "Tsuki no Ie" (Outlaw Star)- The second ending sequence to this series, like Hiru no Tsuki, felt out-of-place to the series. But, that didn't mean the music and images were worth making this ending sequence a sight to behold. With gorgeous artwork stills and an upbeat dramatic musical track, you would think that this wasn't coming from Outlaw Star.

5. "Futari" (Grave of the Fireflies)- My all-time favorite choice of ending music for an anime movie. With all that take places by the time the movie ends, Futari creates an emotionally powerful closing musical track to one of the most depressing movies that have come out of anime.

My absolute personal favourite, in terms of the complete composition would be the first ending for Witchblade, Ashita no Te performed by Mamiko Noto.

It's the perfect tone-setting piece for the series, with its peaceful, but lonely visuals, accompanied by a song with a soothing, almost lullaby quality, that really does the job to enforce the theme of the mother-daughter relationship that drives the anime. It's beautiful.

There are certain songs that I personally like more as just songs, for example, Triangle by Mami Kawada from Shakugan no Shana 2nd, Anna ni Issho Datta no Ni by See-Saw from Gundam SEED, or Life by Yui as heard in Bleach, and most recently, Friends by Stephanie, in Gundam 00 (very powerful vocals, there).

But in terms of the overall composition, I have to put Ashita no Te in top spot.

On a similar note, the ending to Chrono Crusade, Sayonara Solitaire by Saiko Chiba always seems to well up some feeling inside me, but that's mostly a result of the anime itself. It's a very pretty song in its own right, though, for sure.

I'm a bit hesitant about declaring anything best of all time. I simply settle for most memorable for me. (In no particular order.)

First of them is the second ending of Revolutionary Girl Utena: Virtual Star Hasseigaku, it perfectly sums the tone and visuals of the show, and the song is my second favourite from Utena. (You guessed right, the first is Zettai Unmei Mokushiroku.)

Second is the ending of Serial Experiments Lain: Tooi Sakebi. The reasons are mostly the same as before, with an added bonus that listening to the song always makes me to wish for more Lain.

Third is Rapsberry Heaven from Azumanga Daioh. The visuals aren't that strong here (perhaps even a bit disturbing, I hate those guys who introduced me to the darker interpretation of the show Smile ), but its one of the songs that makes my soul ache from its beauty.

Fourth is the Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex ending Lithium Flower. I like the simple images of the cast making a nice backdrop to the catchy song here. (The same concept was used in the Berserk ending, but somehow the song didn't work for me until the last episodes.)

Finally Moonlight of Kurau: Phantom Memory. Ok, perhaps here I make an exemption, this may be one of the best of all time. It's just perfect.

I enjoy the closing credits for My-Hime. You almost always hear the music before the closing credits start, and the artwork shown is very good and quite touching.

I also enjoyed the closing credits for Steamboy. You got to see a preview of things to come, and the is even an epilogue at the start that wraps up loose ends in the movie.

My favorite, however, is the closing credits for Whisper of the Heart. It features the great song, "Country Roads," and continues the movie for the duration of the credits. If that doesn't make you want to sit through the closing credits, I don't know what will.

I've recently acquired a love for Monster's first ending credits song. It's very soothing and emotional. It sounds a bit inspired by U2, but I could be wrong.

Wind - Akeboshi (Naruto 1st Ending) - The song has a strong meaning and the ending was cute. Gotta love the adorable child Naruto! ^^

Parade - CHABA (Naruto 12th Ending) - Yes, I'm talking about the version with Sakura, not the one with the cast dressed in dog suits. The animation was very beautiful, on top of having a beautiful song.

Nakushita Kotoba - No Regret Life (Naruto 9th Ending) - Sad and sweet. I think some of the animation of this led to the inspiration for the animation for the opening sequence for Nami Kaze Satellite, but that's just me. =P

Tobira no Mukou e - Yellow Generation (FullMetal Alchemist 2nd Ending) - Just like the show's animation, the credits were great as well. Loved the burning of the past memories, and gotta love Ed's awesome hairflip at the end.

Kesenai Tsumi - Nana Kitade (FullMetal Alchemist 1st Ending) - Nana Kitade rules, FMA rules, this song rules...actually this animation ruled. I can't really say much more than that...it just ruled.

Nana : Winter Sleep by Oliva Lufkin - It was only used for a few episodes towards the end of the series. Not only are the vocals just absoultly beautiful, but the music fits the story at the time of the series.

FLCL : Ride On Shooting Star by The Pillows - The music is great, but more than that is the mix of animation and live action. It is really hard to put my finger exactly what draws me to it, but it just gets me going everytime I see it.

Ergo Proxy- Paranoid Android by Radiohead
It's a great song, and it was an unexpected choice for an anime. And having subtitles meant that I could finally understand the lyrics!

I forgot two more...

Broken Youth - Nico Touches The Walls (Naruto: Shippuuden 6th Ending) - Putting Naruto and Sasuke in a Kenshin-like setting was actually awesome, and the song was neat too. Although my favorite part was the frog at the end. =P

Michi ~to you all~ - aluto (Naruto: Shippuuden 2nd Ending) - Based on the special, the gang heads to high school for this sweet-sounding ending. My favorite part: the ending with Sakura cutting her hair and it flowing off into the sunset. The song was also good for in the promo ending featuring Shion for the Naruto: Shippuuden movie (you can see this at the end of the Sakura vs. Sasori episodes, in case you have no idea what I'm talking about).

My top choices would be:

Chobits - "Ningyo Hime" by Rie Tanaka - Moe hater? Here, have a bunny Razz (well, some sort of vaguely lapine creature anyway)

Paradise Kiss - "Do You Want To" by Franz Ferdinand - Quirky, sexy song coupled with quirky, sexy animation that's totally incongruous when compared to the carefully-drawn, slightly Beardsley-esque character designs, and yet at the same time immensely satisfying as a sort of "pressure relief valve"

Kanon - "Kaze no Tadori Tsuku Basho" by Ayana - Beautifully bouncy and upbeat after all the moe moping

Higurashi no Naku Koroni Kai - "Taishō.a" by anNina - Wonderful 80's jazz/pop-feel song accompanying the visuals ripe with suppressed danger and eroticism (including a non-kiss that would rival Bollywood in its emotional intensity)

Azumanga Daioh - "Raspberry Heaven" by Oranges & Lemons - Is it really supposed to be so sad? Maybe I'm just reading too much into it.

Kodomo no Jikan - "Hanamaru☆Sensation" by Little Non - Unabashed SD loli pantsu, what more is there to say?

I find Menchi "singing" the "Bolero of Sorrow" in Excel Saga hard to top. Especially when spoiler[ they switch in Ep. 26]

GetBackers's 'Changin'. The animation is hip and spunky (Chibi Ban and Chibi Ginji can dance! Anime smile), there's a nice Kazuki joke in there, the song is catchy...it can put a smile on your face...

...but not as much as 'My Omelette', lol...

You mean the fact that Kazuki is with the girl group? Laughing I love that song too - it's my favorite song from the series.

I actually really enjoy "Shiki no Uta" by Minmi, which is the ending to Samurai Champloo. If I feal like relaxing, I'll just put that DVD in, skip right to the ending, and lay there in my bed, fealing really zen.

Ah yes great song. The song has a Bossa Nova feel to it, which I really liked back when I was still watching the series.

I love both songs. Taishou.a is just so beautiful and it's been one of my favorite EDs ever since. As for the Parakiss ED, I like it when it starts just as when each episode is about to end.

Now for my other [recent] favorites:

In the end of the 7th episode shows the good-bye concert of sheryl nome. with the Diamond Crevasse as the background music and fleets of battleships going toward an unknown battle.
i can definitely feel the sadness that presented in the music.

I absolutely love the end credits to Chrono Crusade. They could have done more with animation, but Sayonara Solitaire is absolutely beautiful. It seems a bit out of place with the start, but at the end, there isn't a song that could be more perfectly placed.

I have a lot of favorite closing themes and here are some of them!

Rurouni Kenshin’s – 4th avenue café

Sung by l’arc en ciel, this song truly catches someone’s ear first of all because of the beat of the song! This song will begin with some drum beats and then Hyde sings the chorus of this song which I found nice and catchy. The lyrics are kinda sad but overall it was a hit!

Blood + - Brand new map

Sung by K, this song is like telling you that there’s always a rainbow after the rain. With its pop beat, I’m sure everyone will like this closing theme. The singer is Korean and it’s amazing to know that he sings Japanese songs!

Tokyo Majin’s – Hanafubuki

Whoa! I really like this ending theme because of its melancholy beat and lyrics.
