Exactly. This is most likely your problem. Use the Spoken Languages menu on the DVD (not the audio button) and you should be fine. |

um... didn't Fox's claim expire not that long ago? (after all, they were able to release DVDs before their contract expired...) I would also expect that Disney wouldn't have been able to do anything with Totoro (in respect to public releases) until the minute the Fox contract expired. Nausicaa.net says: Disney has acquired the global distribution rights for Ghibli movies, including Totoro, but Fox's rights don't expire until 2004. ...so maybe Fox's rights haven't expired yet? If it's a legal issue, let's just hope that Eisner is not part of the negotiations. Still, I think it's possible that Disney is waiting for the old Fox release of Totoro to be off the shelves before they release their own. Like I said before, all the advertising in the world won't help if Fox's version is still on the shelves and priced cheaper. And they sorted out the issue of DVD releases a while ago: When the original deal was struck in 1996, Disney was still not sure about DVD's future, so they didn't negotiate DVD rights as part of the deal. Disney has since negotiated for the DVD rights to "Princess Mononoke" and all other films in the Disney-Tokuma Deal. -- Nausicaa.net Anyway, we can wait a little longer for Totoro, we'll all survive ~_^ It's Nausicaä that I've really been waiting for! --Em |

I don't have a lot to add to the press release, other than Porco Rosso and Nausicaa being "confirmed" at http://disneyvideos.disney.go.com/, and with the following specs for each respective film:

Japanese Studio: Walt Disney Home Entertainment U.S. Rating: PG Canadian Rating: G Genre: Animation UPC: 786936175264 Approximate Run Time: 93 minutes Theatrical Release Date(s): 1992 Directed By: Hayao Miyazaki Written By: Hayao Miyazaki Technical Specifications: Color 1.85:1 Aspect Ratio Closed Captioned Region 1 Dolby Digital Surround Sound, thanks-Certified, English (Dolby 2.0 Surround), French (Dolby 2.0 Surround), Japanese Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround Sound Language(s): English, Japanese Studio: Walt Disney Home Entertainment U.S. Rating: PG Canadian Rating: PG Genre: Animation UPC: 786936175240 Approximate Run Time: 117 minutes Theatrical Release Date(s): 1984 Cast: Nausicaä Alison Lohman Lord Yupa Patrick Stewart Kushana Uma Thurman Mito Edward James Olmos Directed By: Hayao Miyazaki Written By: Hayao Miyazaki Technical Specifications: Color 1.85:1 Aspect Ratio Closed Captioned NTSC Dolby Digital Surround Sound, thanks-Certified Oh, and Anne Hathway playing Haru really blows, but at least Tim Curry is in there. I also don't get why films which Uma's Kill Bill is being recommended next to a film which is clearly for children. |
