Um, you're more than a week too late to be making nominations, and even if you weren't, these aren't in an acceptable format.

You are, of course, still welcome to participate in the voting once the actual elimination rounds starts, but that won't be until the 10th.

Unless, Key has changed things, you won't have to give a reason why you are chosing a character in the first and possibly second rounds. After that, yes, you have to come up with a reason why you are voting for a particular character. And it's alright if you say "I am voting for Don Juan because I liked the arguments that Aylinn gave for him. The fact that he risked his life to save a puppy was what got me."

I rather liked the way things went last time, so I don't see a need to change things. That means:

  • For Rounds 1 and 2, you must justify in detail your vote for at least one of the match-ups in each Group (and we do one Group per week per Round). You can do only one if you like, though.
  • For Round 3 and forward, you must justify all of the match-ups, but there's only four (or less) match-ups per Group at that point.
  • As one person indicated, using a "based on xxxx's arguments, I'm voting for Y" explanation is generally an acceptable justification from Round 3 on. I also generally accept "I had to toss a coin on this one" at that point unless the person's doing it all the time.

And yeah, I do think that this is going to be one of the most fiercely competitive tournaments we've had. We do have one person who was head and shoulders above the others on nominations, but beyond that the field from top to bottom is pretty deep. Also throwing a wrench in things is that we had more candidates than normal whose strength , IMO, wasn't accurately reflected by the nomination vote. (I mean, come on, is Izumi Curtis really fourth-round material? Yet her nomination voting says that she is.)

Sent my bracket in. Did anyone else find having Nov 11. and Akira Tokizawa in the same group to be cruel? Personally, I would advance both over anyone besides maybe 2 or 3 select choices. I also agree with Key that Izumi is overrated. And while Guts and Dark Schneider may have been shoe ins to win for a badass tournament, that's not at all the case when you also measure cool. It will also be interesting to see if there's a clear front runner in this tournament, my guess is yes. That being said, I still think this tournament will have below average mini-game scores since what people value as cool is highly subjective. How can you compare raging bravado and badass to suave and general cool? Like the supporting tournament, popularity will play a larger role, but I still think Lupin, Cpt. Harlock, and Reinhard will have at the very least a few wins before they are taken down despite being from old school shows.

Yeah, when I first filled in my minigame bracket I was trying to guess how others would pick them and I had a hell of a time. I think that instead of trying to maximize my score, I'm just going to pick my favorites and see how that compares to the community at large.

I finally filled out a bracket myself (for the lolz), and for the most part the choices seemed easy to me, although I could end up being very wrong about a lot of them.

So, I've got 9 entries in so far, which is a pretty good pace:
marie-antoinette
Mylene
DarkRoseFairy
MorwenLaicoriel
Olliff
~~Epic~~
guet

Sorry about that. Anime catgrin + sweatdrop

Looks like it's shaping up to be an awesome tourney though. Smile

Sent away my bracket. Finally. So hard. So very, very hard.

Does anyone else have two chicks and two dudes in the semifinals, and a woman making it to the final? Japan may be still backwards when it comes to how much respect women get, but there are some absolutely brutal females in Anime. Trying to weigh up their respective popularity was hard, but there's no denying that they're great contenders.

It took me a few days of critical thinking but my bracket is finally completed. There were so many hard choices. At some point, I just said, "Screw it, just pick someone and be done with it." There is no point in overthinking it so I just went with something.

Dorcas_Aurelia, could you update us with the number of people who have sent in completed brackets? Thanks, in advance.

Impatient much? Until half an hour ago I'd received only two more submissions since I posted the first list, and I checked my email when I got home from work two hours ago. Yes, I got yours; haven't looked at it yet, I'll send you a message if there's any problem.

Current list:
marie-antoinette
Mylene
DarkRoseFairy
MorwenLaicoriel
Olliff

Is it OK to fill out the tournament form even if one has only seen, say, 35-45% of the shows?

That's kind of why there are write-ups and pictures with all the nominations: so people who aren't familiar with the characters and shows can participate.

I will, of course, be submitting one, too, but I probably won't have time to sit down and think seriously about it until Sunday.

I'm glad to see that I still have time to submit my mini-game bracket! Like Key, I won't have a chance to get to mine until Sunday.

Huh? Didn't you receive my submission, Dorcas, or was there something wrong with it?
