BTW, apologies for my snippy tone yesterday... I had too much coffee, not that that's an excuse.

I didn't want to comment on anything in here until I was done writing the follow-up article, but I must point out that the above statement is 100% false. |

*Sigh* Looks like I need more work deciphering your bizarre syntax. Anyways, I simply wanted to clear up one point of confusion.
As of right now, at least four former IC Ent employees have not been paid in full. That's not speculation. It's a fact. |

Good evening,
I have a few friends following this "strive interview". I must disclose that I am...I consider myself a friend of Steve. I am a fan of his. I like the guy. I believe the original article had "news worthiness". IC is part of the American landscape. Anything that would extremely affect a company (to the point of closing down) has merit to be news. End of story, no more debate (in my opinion) on the merit nor news worthiness. I didn't feel that the article was an "attack" nor "ambush" article. Furthermore, I know a few people who called IC and 90% of the time only got an answering machine. So, this could mean anything...it could also mean that the writer of the article did try to get IC/Steve's side. Also, a friend did tell me, after actually talking to Steve over the phone, Steve was advised to not comment on any of his current problems (legal problems?). The "unreturned phone" call could mean anything. Next, for those Steve/IC fans (I'm a fan of Steve and IC, aswell) out there trying to flame the interviewees, I ask this: Did IC foster a "corperate culture" long before those former employees join IC? The rumors (I've not asked anyone in the know about this one) of K.Blue (spelling?) "hi-jacking" (my words) IC and not informing Steve of IC's business, was this intentinal from Blue? I mean...watch MASH (that old tv show). This comparison struck me one day while debating amung some of my friends who are big Steve fans. Radar O'Reily ran MASH unit when the first Commander was asigned there (before Col. Potter). Kei/kay Blue was trying to keep things working while...while... while...what? While Steve "runs" IC? Who's running what? Now, isn't it possible that due to Kuni; due to Steve; due to Keven; etc, etc, etc... they all had a hand in......"allowing a lax culture to developed and evolved" (my words) with in IC? Somebody had to "let things get to this point", right? No "employee" would "take advantage of the boss" if the boss didn't allow it to happen, I believe. Does any of this make sense to any Steve/IC fan out there? I'm not ragging on Steve. I like Steve. But, you must call it like you see it. I'm only commenting on a "business that's about to implode". The ship doesn't steer itself. The inmates doesn't set the rules in a prison. The patient isn't in charge of the crazy house! Who was in charge of IC? Lastly, there is a LAW that doesn't allow "free" labour for for-profit business *coughIronCats*. Even if there isn't "a profit", yet. As long as there is an intent to make a profit and the corperation is set up to make a profit, employees must be paid. It comes across as all the "employees" are "interns". This is fair; however, once the "intern" status is over, they must be paid. Did IC break any laws on this one? I am not sure if that law is a Federal Law, State or Local. See ya at Anime Reactor! |

Not to get into the middle of this argument or anything, but from the outside looking in, you're in the wrong SamGoody0491. Your quote is two seperate sentances. The first: "First of all, for all you know, and we all know." The second: "They have been paid." What you should have done was put a comma (,) at the end of the first sentance to make it all one sentance. The way you wrote it implies that, yes, they were paid, which is false and Miagi is right in saying so. Now, that may not be what you ment to say, but it IS what you said, therefore Miagi was right. I feel for these employees. I, too, know the feeling of not getting paid for hard work. Many times I've had to get the police and the court system involved when I, say, wire the house, then not get paid for months. I've even had someone threaten me with a weapon(knife) because I threatened to sue him for not paying me! I had to hold him at chainsaw-point until the cops arrived! I hope nothing comes to that, and IC will resolve this soon.

well, I WAS going to stop, I didn't need the last word or anything, but:
Kudos to you Iron Chef, that was the funniest thing in this thread, at least to me. As far as everything else, look these people deserve to be paid, period, I just think the story is incredibly one-sided. Now you can argue the REASON it is onesided is that IC never answered however many phone calls and if you're satisfied with that, then fine. Personally I think the article could have been MUCH better framed by the author, but that is my opinion and I am entitled to it just as much as you are entitled to yours. I have not been pleased with ANN's presentation in several articles, some of which I believe to be founded criticism, and some of which I'll freely admit is emotional bias. In this situation, on an "intellectual" level, I think the reporter could have put more effort into a more "balanced" piece. Again, if you're happy with the piece as written, more power to you, but don't you think it's telling that a person who claims to be a "fan of Ironcat/Steve Bennett" reads this interview and then comes in here saying that OBVIOUSLY Kei Blue was running the company while Steve was possibly a "patient ..in charge of the crazy house". (and Aaron, "no worries", personally I just get "passionate" while debating, I'm not really connected enough to the story to be deeply offended by any responses in here, at worst you'll just bother me anough to make me comment more) |

*for the note- i didn't see the pmessage until after i had posted. it will be erased.*
I'm glad someone has brought to light Kei Blue factor. She was a "office manager", who told everyone it was "her" company because steve was "crazy and flakey". You're right, it was lax, and not "corperate" enough, i remember steve saying a couple of times, "If it works, then make it so." At first he was "in the loop" but soon after because and i qoute ms. blue "I was born to do this." she began to make decisions without consent, and management knowledge. Steve was at fault for not keeping up on her, and he admitedly acknowledges that. That's why he says management fault, which he includes himself in that factor. I Probably wont be at animereactor, definately nekocon tho! |

Hmm...based on your last post, I have to conclude you're either:
A) "Just a fan" who's making up quotes to defend your position (which I doubt because you're so specific) B) Someone (maybe an "independent dealer") who's talked to Kei, Steve, or another Ironcat employee. One or more of them described the situation, and you repeated it above like you witnessed it first-hand. (I'm guessing it wasn't Kei, as the quotes paint her in a poor light.) C) A former or current volunteer (which I guess you might want to define as not "working for the company") who actually saw some of what you describe D) A former or current paid employee of Ironcat Why does it matter? Because if you fit any of these four descriptions, you haven't been entirely honest--let alone straightforward--in your comments. Please do not lie in this thread. Be honest, separate what you claim to be facts from what you infer from them, and only then can we have a meaningful discussion. -Jonathan |

o_O...
I already stated from the beginning that i'm a fan(second post), and an independant dealer(about 5th post). That's why i've been to so many con's that steve's announced what's happened to the company. I have never worked for ironcat, if that clears anything up, and i dont work for ironcat, i have my own company. And those qoutes, quite honestly and sadly, all you had to do was be at the ironcat table for a little, she would outright tell you, whenever steve wasnt around. It also helped that i wanted to submit an amerimanga comic, so I was told that to my face, at a crowded table. So needless to say, i decided not to apply. So yes, i witnessed first hand. So, I haven't lied, and i've been straightforward. I didn't want to be the first to bring it up, but now that someone has, i dont mind saying what i've heard personally. |

Why would it be sour grapes? I didn't submit it, I chose not to. I wanted to, I went to the table to see if I could submit. Showed her a copy of my work, but because she was so rude, and talking about her boss in that way to me. She didn't know me from joe schmo, and she was telling me things she shouldnt have. It raised alarms in my head and I decided, it wasnt a good idea. I told her, that i would mail her a copy since i had only brought one, (actually i had brought three), and left it as that. The reason why i said "it also helped that i wanted to submit", was because those qoutes were told to ME by HER directly. |
