Tatsuya is far from a gary stu. spoiler[Later in the novels he has some pretty close battles. His stronger abilities have pretty massive limitations, ie decomp needs special gear he can't readily use. And there are a handful of character that can seriously challenge him.

I also think Erika might be interested in him, and her interaction with Leo is more of a red herring. But last time I checked having a harem does not one a gary stu make]
