Ooooh, I really like what I've heard of the Delgados. I should see this anime! Is it any good?

I haven't seen it, but it definitely sounds like the kind of thing you'd get creeped out by. Looks seriously targeted towards the people who hang out in /l/ and everything I've heard from people who've watched it has supported that.

Then how the hell did such a good band get involved with it?

Yeah, Tekken had a lot of "heavy" bands in the soundtrack. Aside from one Corrosion of Conformity song (off their "Deliverance" album), it pretty much sucked. |
Actually, it was that song; "Clean my wounds" which got me into Corrosion of Conformity in the first place. The song "Blind"(by KORN) used for the closing credits of the Street Fighter Anime Movie
was better Than the original Japanese ending theme,IMO.
I thought the Alice n Chains song "them bones" were improperly used in the SF Movie (where Ken is preposing to his finacee while driving..how chessy) KMFD's "give it to me" kinda gelled during the Chun Li/Vega fight. The purists may strongly disagree but i don't mind.

Um...well maybe, before coming out with accusations like that, you *should* see it, or at least read about it. One of the strengths of Gunslinger Girl, in my opinion, is just that - it takes your expectations (based on many other, vastly inferior series) and then completely defies them, in the process, making you feel stupid for *having* expectations like that in the first place.
Both of the Delgados songs used (The Light Before We Land, which is the OP, and Woke From Dreaming, at the beginning of episode 7) are very much appropriate, given the somber and melancholy nature of this series - and the somber and melancholy nature of many Delgados lyrics. And as far as how it came to be that the songs were used, it's entirely possible the band itself did not have a say in the matter - and very possibly, isn't even aware of it. Someone on the GG production team is a Delgados fan, the studio's licensing people contact the licensing people of the Delgados label, and all Emma and Alun and co. get out of this is...a bit more money in their bank accounts each month, between the licensing fee, residuals (if any), and, well, people like me.

Both Tekken and Street Fighter had music replaced for the US release. Frankly, the Japanese SF:TM soundtrack was one of the greatest popular music soundtracks of all time. I wish Sony's rights to it would lapse and someone could release it properly. Unfortunately there's probably the same case as there was with Street Fighter-V, seperated music rights.

LOL I had a feeling you would respond to my comments regarding the SF soundtrack. And although we disagree with which soundtrack is better, i do support the idea of a re-release with the original Japanese Score left intact. And as for SF-V having it's music altered or removed altogether, hey that's Manga Entertainment (The Miramaxe of Anime) for ya. Look at how they butchered the opening theme for the original Fist of the Northstar series, Not to mention the mishandling of other releases like Devilman,Angelcop and Dangaioh.
But atleast we still have Guyver's theme unscathed.*chuckles*

The US ending to Ghost in the Shell was "One Minute Warning" by Passengers, a collaborative side-project between Brian Eno and U2. Their first (and only) album, Original Soundtracks I, was made up of music culled from films they wrote music for. Among these was Ghost in the Shell. And I honestly like the song and a great deal of the rest of the Passengers material.
And the Delgados rock. I remember falling in love with them before I saw Gunslinger Girl.. and then suddenly, when I watched the first episode, I went "HOLY CRAP!" and proceeded to dance in a way that only "The Light Before We Land" can possess you to dance.

Um...first of all, I HAVE read about it (this is the first time I've ever heard anyone have a reaction that isn't CREEPY PEDO FODDER). And victoronehalf is a very good friend of mine, so I've got a pretty good idea of what he'd be creeped out by.

I ususally enjoy the music in some animes better than the animes themselves. Street Fighter and DBZ had great songs by kick ass bands like Disturbed, American Pearl, Dust For Life, Pantera, Deftones, Dream Theater, Korn, Tendril, Buckethead, and Corrosion of Conformity. All those bands I like so I have no problem with western artists in anime soundtracks. METAL RULES!!!!!

At the moment I'm listening to some Japanese Thrash Metal (SOB-Kaidan), but just had a freaky moment - Maison Ikkoku has Gilbert O'Sullivan singing in it (1970's UK pop singer/song-writer)
Weird - Listening to Noise, Violence & Destroy, and thinking of GS singing Clair one of the songs in MI.
I think i'm sick
