Consensus is hard to get when there is a whole campaign by group of people telling people the opposite (no, I am not talking about climate change). You can clearly see how rape in the USA has declined hand in hand with AOL for DOS in '91 (and Windows the following year) introduction. The wikipedia also cites this paper. Of course if consensus can't be had for "porn decreases rape" in general, it will be harder for vcp since anyone talking in behalf of allowing this kind of publications will be seen as a monster (but I am already used to be called that in this board). |

You're drawing a false correlation here to events that have no connection. Rape cases began to decline as early as 1993, from its peak in 1992. Source. I fail to see how widely available internet porngraphy could have effected that since even in 1996&1997 only around 1/4 of Americans even had internet access.Source. Your claim also fails to acknowledge that porngraphy theaters were around in the 1970s, as well as magazines like Playboy and whatnot before that.... as was home video pornography when VHS was invented back in the early 80's. Yet if you look at the first table I quoted, you see that rape counts rise dramatically from the mid 80's to early 90's. If lack of pornography = rise in rape, you would see the number of rapes declining at least from the early 80's onwards. What you see is actually the inverse of that. The real fact of the matter is that all violent crime has seen a steep decline since the early 90's. To your credit, while it cannot be argued that porn decreases rape, it also cannot be argued that porn increases rape either. It's moot to bring up that internet pornography allowed easier access in the home. If a man is capable of raping a woman, he sure the hell isn't going to be shy about going to a porn theater or sex shop. There is more of a consensus that rape is not a crime of lust, but of violence and power / domination. In fact, 82% of rapes are comitted by those with some sort of relationship or acquaintance to the victim, and half take place within the victim's home. Source. Regardless of what movies & TV would have you to believe, rape is not usually a woman being assaulted in a dark alleyway by a random stranger. |

No matter how you dice it, 1/4 is HUGE! Even the reported 14% for 1994 is HUGE and aligns quite well with the decline in rape thanks to internet porn.
I do think that the appearance of porn mags and videos helped decreased rape, but the rise of rape in the 60s and 70s seems to me more like lack of reporting, coupled with the fact that there are NO statistics prior to 1960, like it was not considered a relevant crime at all before that date. BTW, as an added bonus, I would thank the decline of other violent crimes to the surge of videogames (with at least cartoon like images) in the same period, thanks to which people can sublimate any violent urges they might have.
You seem to think that rapists are like your average shounen series character, always on the lookout of someone strong to beat them up. Quite the opposite, they are on the lookout for the weakest object of their lust and if it is not weak enough, they use drugs and/or verbal attacks. So yeah, a rapist is a coward at heart that might have problem buying a porn mag or video but might feel like attacking a defenseless victim, which most of the time they already know beforehand, attacking an unknown person might end in a fighting a strong opponent. Rape is also an act of domination, but remove the lust and it no longer becomes a rape, maybe assault or even murder. |

Three factors are usually cited for the decrease of rape in the USA:
1 - Harshening of laws against rapists (Good) 2 - More reporting of rape (Good, but still not enough) 3 - Access to porn (Good) As such, it's a multiple factor decrease. As for Animated/Illustrated Child Pornography, it is absurd to assume that child rapists will emerge out of it. Child rapists will appear, regardless, and most lolicon fans are not rapists. Child rapists want the real thing after all, and anime/manga children are not realistic. Also, that that does not victimise a third party must be legal, says the philosopher John Stuart Mill. And animated/illustrated child porn does not involve real children. I'm yet to understand loli fandom, but okay. From here to suspecting all of them of potential rape goes a long distance. |

Eh no.. its really is not. If its too realistic it is banned. But H-manga? Nope. Not a single case of somebody getting jailed for owning H-manga. And the biggest H-manga site(which is based in the Netherlands), that I know of, has been up and running since atleast 2007. |
