For the record: that's the second time that almost that exact same pic of Oefcoque has been used. (I used a cap from that same scene a couple of months back.)

At this point you should probably count Calathan as an act of god and start counting from the second.

And the second time that Yttrbio got the answer, apparently. My shot is better though. Poor Œufcoque getting raped by his girlfriend. It hurts.

Wow... How much anime do you generally watch, within a week, Calathan?
If you say anything under 50, it's because today's April 1st.

Actually people, a lot of the pictures that Calathan gets is from stuff he hasn't watched. Sometimes he's played the game but mostly it is just good-old-fashioned detective work that gets him the answer. He trawls peoples' myAnime lists and tries to find works with similar art styles to the current picture in play. He also really analyses hints and follows up on them. Finally, I remember him mentioning something about using a reverse image search site to help him out, which is why he recommends other people use their own screencaps.
Yeah, he watches a large amount of shows and has a great memory, but he also puts in the hard work when it is required. You know he puts question marks after some of his correct guesses such as "Is it Character X from Title A?"? I don't think he's rubbing it in; he genuinely isn't one-hundred percent sure because he is only relying on what some character database is telling him rather than what he himself knows.

Counting the number of users on the score board, I am thinking that maybe we should let dtm42 rejoin the game in return for a promise to stop trolling us with the wait 47.9 hours to post his picture behavior.

I actually don't watch that much anime when measuring by running time. My anime list is huge because I watch literally everything short that I can get a copy of that is either subtitled or dubbed in English (except hentai). I finished over 150 anime in 2011 (by which I mean 150 ANN encyclopedia entries, so some of those were multiple seasons of the same show, or multiple movies in the same franchise, or things like that). However, the vast majority of those were short OAVs and the like. I really only watch about 1-3 episodes of anime a day, plus maybe a movie on the weekend. I'll also actually watch new things when it is my turn to post an image if I don't have an image yet.

I do guess lots of characters from things I haven't seen, generally after there is a hint or two, but sometimes based on recognizing the character designs or based just knowing who the character is without having actually seen the anime. However, I also guess a lot of characters from things I've seen. I do always look up characters I guess on sites that list characters with images (e.g. myanimelist.net), even if I know exactly what anime the character is and what their roll is in the story, because I'm just terrible with names (particularly Japanese names). Even if I know the character well, I probably need to look up their name to know how to spell it.
About the reverse image searches, you are remembering incorrectly. I asked about them once when someone mentioned them because I had never heard of them before and didn't realize that sort of thing was available. However, I think using them is very cheesy and something that should be against the rules. I've tested using Google images on my own images, and it finds some of them even though I took all the screenshots myself (because I like to use the clearest image I can find of a character when using a character from an obscure show). I warn people to find their own images because there is nothing in the rules against using them, but personally I think using them shouldn't be allowed.
About being sure of my answers, I actually am very certain most of the time. The format that I write my guesses in is because I like to do things in a standardized way, and at some point got in the habit of doing that (when I started playing this game, I was less sure of my answers). Now, when I think I know the character but haven't seen the show, I'll actually try to track down a copy of the show and watch it to find the exact image that was used before guessing.
Also, I just want to mention that I actually spend more time playing this game than watching anime (which probably sounds pretty strange to everyone else, but I have a lot of free time and I enjoy searching for the answers).

Er, what about the number of users on the scoreboard? I don't see how it relates to me.

Hey, I'm not begging to come back, and I don't think anyone apart from yourself would want me back anyway. The reason I keep an eye on the threads is so that I can guess the quotes and images on my own and try to race the eventual guesser. It sounds lame I know but it is also fun as I don't have to put up with you people. As the Japanese say, I can go at "mai pacesu".
The only way I'd even want to come back given, er, 'present circumstances', is if I was allowed to guess but if/when I answered correctly my turn automatically and immediately passes no matter what. That way I wouldn't have to put up with people's BS complaints about how I stay so precisely within the rules. Which I only started doing in the first place as a protest against Key.
If you guys want me back then I'll come back. But I doubt you will.

I am willing to allow you back in under the "guessing rights but no posting pic rights" provision that you described, as it was always your picture posting habits - and never your guesses - that I and others had problems with. We have other players that always pass their turns anyway, so it wouldn't be any disruption to the game.

The point that dtm still doesn't understand why people are so annoyed at his playstyle is evidence to me that he shouldn't be allowed back. A game is supposed to be fun, and ruining that for everyone else for a grudge that no one but you remembered is against the spirit of the game. When you're playing football or something, there isn't a rule that says "Don't rush over to the massive mud puddle every time you get the ball because nobody likes playing with a dirty, dripping wet ball of filth", because most people consider good sportsmanship to be something that all players should understand.

This. He still thinks he's the wronged one. So I vote nay on even guess-only rights. Oh yeah, and him describing peoples' grievances with him as "BS complaints" and how he dislikes dealing with us doesn't do him any favors either. I am against it.

Throwing in full opposition of allowing him back for the same reasons Dorcas pointed out. Auto pass or not, I see no reason to allow him back. I don't even know why Raftina would suggest it, especially since he immediately tried to add stipulations. If parameters need to be set I think that should be enough to let you know that it's better to just leave him out.

I am not inclined to force the issue on this in the face of such staunch opposition.
dtm42 stays out, then.

Yes, a game is supposed to be fun. It isn't fun when you are being threatened with temp-bans for something you didn't do. That was two years ago, don't forget. As I have said before, I figured if Key had it out for me then I was going to go down fighting, hence why I started not providing hints in the first place. A vicious spiral, but not one started by me.
I didn't make up the rules, I didn't have the power to change them either. If you guys were really and truly fed up with that behaviour then you should have changed the rules, and I would have obeyed the new ones. Or hey, Key could have apologised and that would have been that.
Instead you guys invoked some sort of airy-fairy fanciful imaginary inscrutable magical mystical supernatural undefinable 'thing' that never even shows up with the other rules, and can be invoked when and where you feel like it. It is a faith-based appeal to a higher power which does not exist but which is supposed to have absolute and overriding power. Every time someone mentions "spirit of the game" I start retching. Well, figuratively-speaking. Keep the Yu-Gi-Oh!-style speeches in the show, thank-you-very-much.
The Rancorous, what you forget - or maybe you decided to never read it in the first place - is that I'm not lobbying to come back. I'm not out for "favors", I'm not trying to get back into the games. Have I not already said that since leaving the games I've been having fun? If you've been having a ball these last two months and don't want it to end then great, we can continue to ignore one another. But do not think that you're sticking it to me by denying a request I never made.
I'm really not fussed either way the outcome goes. And given the past four posts, I suppose I have my answer.

I don't think The Rancorous said anything that gave the indication that you desired to participate again. I think most of us here simply don't want to participate in a game with someone that has such a reactive attitude, and spoils the fun for everyone despite having a grudge with only one person. I would rather not have you participate. Not to stick it to you, rather to keep the game as enjoyable as it has been since you've been gone. Just having you post in this thread leaves a bad taste in our mouths.
