Here are my personal character awards for this season.

Best Boy: Sebas
Best Girl: Sebas
Best Hero: Sebas
Best Villain: Sebas
Best Husbando: Sebas
Best Waifu: Sebas

But seriously, I don't think I've ever seen a supporting character developed as effectively as Overlord Season II did with Sebas. I'm ready to watch a 100 episode spinoff with him as the main character now.

the best is definitely Poputepipikku, giving us that ending of rewrite with Hoshiro Girl Drop was dream-like.
Second best would be Slow Start,

and Worst or maybe not worst, bc those shows i simply stopped watching(be it in middle or by end)
It would be Gintama as its getting worse and worse(more boring and more repetitive with its action) compared to how it was before Shogun arc ended. Honestly that's where it should've ended. That break season from action for adapting old arcs was the only good thing that happened to this series since then.

Just pointing that while some people here did choose "Pop Team Epic" as the worst Winter 2018 anime, I think that serves the show's point. The show knows it is lame/trashy and I think that's accounts in part for its popularity.

Man, it's very difficult to do just three categories!

IMO
Best: After the Rain
Runner-up: How to keep a mummy (w h o l e s o m e)
Worst: Pop Team Epic (just can't do it!)
or I'd say in terms of disappointing...Violet Evergarden, it's lovely and it's made me awfully emotional at times, but a part of me feels like it may have been better to take a different route in the show...or maybe just have more episodes. I'll have to read the light novels regardless, I may enjoy the overall concept more.

I'm so happy to see Dame x Prince on here, such a hilarious show. Anyone who enjoys otome games, and also screaming at them will enjoy it. Making fun of tropes is a good time.
Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens is also a great show this season, it's too bad it wasn't covered on the site.

It is nice to see Laid-Back Camp get some love; I really enjoyed it, and I hope it is released on BD. As far as the best and worst of the season, it was rather easy to determine this time around.

Best: Devilman Crybaby
Runner-up: After the Rain

Worst: Overlord II

i wouldn't go that far, but yea. overlord tends to take things a little too far, but not enough to call it worst. though best is definitely a tie with devilman crybaby and darling (kinda glad creamer isn't reviewing the series! Laughing )

as for death march, its not that bad. its just a typical light novel adaptation series! while its no highschool dxd or SAO or even log horizon , at least the protagonist is likeable.

for one thing satou isn't like the typical uber shy girl phobic harem MC ala the tenchi & kenchi masaki, ichika and touma, nor is he an uber perv like issei & arata and he's DEFINITELY NO school days makoto ito!

the problem with death march is that there isn't enough eps cause the series does get better with the next chapters in the light novel and fixes the issues that plagues the series early on. but as with light novel adaptations like these, their basically ad series with "read the books, kids!" type of endings to get people to purchase the source materials!

Besides, compared to Sanrio Boys & Märchen Mädchen which should be easily considered to be WORST OF THE YEAR HONORS, death march is a blessing if you ask me.

In a nutshell :

Best winter 2018 anime : Darling in the Franxx
Worst winter 2018 anime : Violet Evergarden

Darling in the Franxx is original, funny, witty, has an actual narrative and nice action scenes. Violet Evergarden is a mediocre emotional porn anime. It's a tear jerker show done wrong.
I'd recommend the Kyoani staff go look at some old school anime to understand how to have engaging emotional characters. Just crying or brooding from morning until dusk is not enough.
I'd also recommend Kyoani stop adapating low garbage light novels and start creating something original for a change.

I'lll just say that ANN bias crops up again. If you're going to put Darling in the Franxx in the winter 2018 category you have to put also Violet Evergarden because the 2 shows started at the same time and will end one in spring 2018 and the other in the summer 2018. But of course ANN can't help but want Evergarden to shine, so they decide to postpone Violet Evergarden so that is doesn't have the competition from the universally reviled Darling in the Franxx.

Humm the best of the season for me would be B the Beginning. I loved the plot, adored the characters and have been listening on loop for weeks to the Perfect World, which is a masterpiece.

My Runner-up would either be Darling in the FRANXX or Cardcaptor Sakura. Both met my expectations and both have characters I love a lot. Zorome and Syaoran for best boy.

Black Clover continues to be a favorite of mine, but that's a continuing show.

My only disappointement for this season would be SWORDGAI. I was pretty excited for it, but my lord it was a mess.

Best:

Devilman: Crybaby, for obvious reasons. Explosive show from the genius of Yuasa.

Hakumei and Mikochi , deliciously sweet and "boring" this is a piece of comtemplative animation and slightly better than Laid Back Camp thanks to it's distinctive art style.

Slow Start, perhaps the best CGDCT show since K-On!! because it's characters a bit more complex than the usual for the genre.

I'm kinda late for this but anyway:

Best

A Place Further Than the Universe-Just an all around great show. I don't have anything else to add since so many other people have talked about it.

Runner Up

DamePri Anime Caravan-I'm happy and surprised that this got mentioned. I honestly wasn't expecting much going in, but by the end of episode 12 I was hoping there would magically be more. Ani is the otome heroine we deserve. That, and the humor actually worked for me. This has become one of my favorite otome anime.

Worst

Record of Grancrest War-I know it hasn't ended, but I finally just dropped the damn thing. After 11 episodes I still don't care about anybody.

Most Disappointing

After the Rain-First off, I will say that the animation was gorgeous. I love the manga so seeing the hack job the anime did with the content kinda killed the whole experience for me. I understand that it's an adaption and that there were only 12 episodes, but I'm still salty about it. It's the same experience I had with the Code;Realize anime.
