Yes, Keijo is a great anime and I heavily anticipated it every week. Glad to see a lot of fans for it as well. Personally, I loved yuri relationship and shows with all around female casts or at least, the male cast served as supports so shows like this also appealed to me in that regard. I'm pretty happy to see that both shounen ai shows (did not watch/read this kind of genre however) and shoujo ai/yuri shows receiving a lot of hits lately, resulting in more diverse titles to be made and catering to the appropriate/interested audiences. I'm looking forward to NTR (whatever the full name is) and Citrus in the upcoming season, which both are yuri title.

I'm getting kinda sick of seeing this sentiment around so often. I didn't think it had to be said that this show is intentionally poking fun at the entire idea of fanservice, but apparently I was wrong.

Chill, @Paiprince. Aside from one early Kotaku article, where are you seeing people condemn this show on feminist terms? I haven't seen it on this site, from critics or users. Not to say I haven't seen people condemn the show, but most of it that I've seen is more from facile cynicism (questioning why this trash (how they see fanservice shows not me) is popular and shaking their heads) rather than feminism. Maybe they aren't actively celebrating it, but they certainly aren't condemning it. Probably best to steer the discussion away from your other example, but I'll just say I see why both sides think the way they do on the other show you mentioned.

One only needs to visit the usual cesspools like YT and tumblr to see where I'm getting at.

@Dr. Wily
That video was great mostly to see the butthurt Jojo fans feel tainted that their "manly" anime is being compared to "fanservice shit." Razz

^I don't go to those places (to the point that I'm not even sure what the first one is off hand), not that I agree with your characterization of those sites. Perhaps consider doing so as well if they just piss you off. I am almost tempted to go just to see what their arguments are and see if I can address them, but not that interested. Nonetheless I've not seen such sentiment here. Not that I wouldn't welcome a reasoned critique along those lines, if someone were to make one.

^So I guess I'm not the only one huh? An anime that triggers Kotaku and bunch of anime elitists (JoJo, Berserk) crybabies. What else could I have asked. And I find it ironic that the guy who made that video is a JoJo but unlike most he enjoys modern anime too.

Nonetheless, this is one of my favorite shows this season just because how ridiculous it is and how serious it takes itself. The fanservice isn't that extreme either, feel like it's making fun of those shows out there.

You don't need to bother with people expressing such sentiment like that, or questioning the obvious, even less if they are of no consistency to support their argument and to provide any visual evidence for the so called "modern anime is dying and turning ecchi and harem all around", because in most cases, they've probably looking for attention or just felt compelled enough to be a special snowflake in the "midst of ruin". There are so many different anime title now each season, and I'm pretty sure that anime hasn't become like what Keijo has turned out to be, a mindless drivel of fanservice, according to people that screamed Doomsday for modern anime anyway.

I'd say that the lack of "ogling" in Keijo is what makes it feel more female-friendly, for lack of a better word, and is probably the biggest difference between something like this and Cross Ange (or at least Cross Ange's first episode, which was as far as I got).

Keijo's closest cousin actually seems to be Ben-To! in my mind, and while that series also had a decent amount of ogling going on via the main character's POV, I never felt like the show itself really endorsed that mindset*, not in the least because the MC routinely had the tables turned against him on that front.

*Barring the horrendous lesbian kidnapping subplot, which, aside from ramping up the creep factor to 11, had TONS of ogling via the camera, rather than any particular character's viewpoint.

i mean this anime is from studio xebec and the really overthetop fanservice shows is like all they make. keijo goes against the trend of being really gross and ridiculous like some other fanservice shows but it comes from the same studio that makes real fanservice so i dont think its weird for people to feel this way

that being said i still like keijo a lot better than anything else xebec puts out

^That's not strictly true but there are some bad fanservice shows in their repertoire. Not that there aren't duds among their non fanservice work.

It looks well animated and fun. A lot of fan service shows try to throw some serious plot in which I've always found stupid. Haven't seen this one, but it looks like it embraces just being a fun and silly show and ridiculous.

And the animation seems pretty sweet. A lot of fan service shows look like hot garbage when it comes to animation quality.

Also, is there actual nudity in is it just pervy? I might be the odd person in the room, but I actually prefer some level of restraint where a show is just pervy rather than descending into legit pornography.

Why is everyone calling this fan service? The fact that they use their tits and asses is important to the story, it's not a contrived situation.

^It may not be a contrived situation, in universe, but that doesn't mean it isn't fanservice. It is just well integrated fanservice. Just because they have a good reason to use them doesn't mean it isn't appealing. You seem to make them same mistake as some cynics do but in the opposite direction, in that you see them doing things for in universe justified reasons and fanservice as mutually exclusive. Keijo!!!!!!!! shows both can be done at the same time, though it is an understandable mistake as in most such shows the fanservice and story are tacked onto each other.

Keijo! Rises above much fanservice anime by not feeling like it's coated in a thin layer of grime. Most the worst fanservice anime relies on their girls getting assaulted in some way; "accidental" tit grabs, crotch faceplants, their clothes being ripped off and then pinned to the ground, but in Keijo all the women are consenting, willing participants in the action. No one is getting molested against their will. It's nice, and I'd like to see them do this kind of fanservice more.

Careful. Too much of this would give the wrong message that all girls are loose and slutty. I still embrace anime's penchant for glorifying prim, pure and proper women who has yet to be tainted by the "realities" of sexuality.
