Probably not much solace, but I remember finding a comic (I think it was a translated Korean manhwa) where the author had a note of thanks under the cover thanking the buyer for purchasing the volume and it noted how much money they received for the buyer's purchase. I can't remember the exact amount, but it was horribly small (like valued in pennies). If that amount still was roughly true for a series like Galko-chan, you could have bought the artist a cup of coffee and that would probably have given him more monetary value than having bought every single translated volume released. In short, if you gave a homeless man pocket change you were probably giving out more money than the author would obtain when you bought a volume. So again it's not much solace, but most of that money for each volume isn't going to the author.

My copy of "Manga Poverty" by Sato Shuho said that mangaka royalties are 10% of the 500 yen tankoban price so they make 50 yen a volume. I do not know how that translates to digital and foreign editions of the volumes.

Well this was pretty much expected given the author's apparent crimes.

On the one hand, it sucks that the series is pretty much dead now. I really liked the more realistic and down to earth way it portrayed the characters' interactions.

But... on the other hand, I feel gross even feeling sorry for the series given what the author has done. Just... ugh, gross, disgusting, repulsive. Can I have more words to describe my visceral negative reaction to that crap? Just a few weeks ago I was thinking about rewatching the series online, but now I feel gross for even wanting to do that. Geez, screw that author for being such a garbage human being!

Suzuki is a pure garbage human being, definitely, but I also hope that that fickfehler from Germany who sent him that obscenity also gets nailed by the police in his country.

While what he did was indeed wrong, i doubt this is his real words. Like in Japan you can get arrested by the police and not allow to meet an attorney so people who have weak mentaiity can break under pressure and confess anything the police told them to.

While forcing a confession out of someone is a problem in pretty much any justice system.

Confessing either willingly or forcefully to wanting to gain access to child pornography is something not many would want to do especially if the case hasn’t yet gone to trial and a plea deal (which I don’t know if Japan has) hasn’t yet been arranged.

Let me get this straight... In order to absolve someone of guilt by association because one manga artist happened to commit a crime, you're championing the horrible conditions all manga artists are working under?

From my perspective, you're not paying to support the author's deviant habits or controversial opinions, you're paying for the work that has gone into the series and the ability to experience the series - nothing more, nothing less. I get that emotions can run high when it comes to these kinds of things, but you're not responsible for enabling the author any more than the farmers who grew the food that he ate to sustain his existence.
