Very sad news indeed. They made many good anime.

Remember when they tried to open up a tomato farm in 2016 becuase they were desperate for money?
This was a long time coming and I'm honestly surprised it didn't happen sooner. They were amazing back in the day but they were well past their prime after all the staff left to form Gonzo/Khara/Trigger |

Uru in Blue died a million ways by now. Jesus Christ. Unless Gaina truly got it and Gunbuster 3. The things Wikipedia teaches you... Now that one has a real chance to be the next FLCL reboot.

My thoughts exactly. It was one heck of a documentary/mockumentary/whatever it really was. If it could chronicle the whole thing from start to finish. |

That's a truly sad thing. I loved the early work of Gainax, especially Wings of Honneamise, Gunbuster, Nadia and Otaku no Video. They were truly special in the 80s and 90s.
Let's not forget Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, Kazuya Tsurumaki, Akami Takai, Hiroyuki Yamaga, Shinji Higuchi and Toshio Okada. They all were Gainax at some point and gradually left the company over the years until only Imaishi and his team remained in the late 2000s. |

To not even finish with a Gainax Ending is probably what is the most disappointing:

Callum May did a four-part piece on GAINAX for this site back in 2018, starting here, though obviously that doesn't fully detail the "fall" part. The only real surprise here is that it took this long. GAINAX was a studio created by fans, not business professionals, and mismanagement has been an issue for them pretty much throughout their existence. |

Sad to see, that name was attached to many a great property. But given Gainax hasn't been relevant in a decade, the only surprise is that it has taken this long for the funeral to be held.

Yes From what I can tell, Khara has Eva and Gunbuster, Trigger's got most of the Imaishi-helmed efforts and Production I.G owns FLCL outright. I have no idea who technically owns the collabs the company did with SHAFT, J.C. Staff or feel. (ie Corpse Princess or Marohomatic) presuming the partner studio doesn't claim them; or a lot of the studio's earlier efforts pre-Eva unless Anno got those ones as well. |

My biggest wish was always for Nono to meet Noriko.
They should have made Gunbuster 3. |

Not altogether unsurprising but still sad to see such an influential and historic studio go out like this.
But at least their IP and legacy lives on. |
