(where's my Shakugan no Shana anime reboot?!)
I think Shakugan no Shana COULD actually receive a new anime in this decade, since it seems that reboots of 2000s anime are a thing now.

Not sure if they would bring Rie Kugimiya to reprise one of her iconic Tsunderie roles, but they should hurry up while she still sounds rather young, though.

As for the new RK anime, I must admit that it was bit weird not hearing Kenshin with female voice, which I always liked, but on the other hand, I don't mind the reboot choosing to be its own thing with male voice.

Gotta love a community where, "pedophiles are bad," is a controversial statement.

It is mostly because the Watsuki story is sucked to the bone so hard that it becomes just sick to hear it back over and over again for the 1000th time, while people actually kept out from the proper discussion of the work itself.

If people not want to support it, it's absolutely OK. Just don't be like Reddit and drown every possible mention of Kenshin anime by the very same thing for years, with nothing new to add.

It's not that it is controversial, as it is just kinda annoying hearing it every time RK, and Watsuki are mentioned.

Like, we get it, Watsuki has a nasty pedo past, but after all this time, give him a break already.

Why... would anyone give him a break. Dude, he didn't just steal a bag of candies from a store to move on from that. He had a whole collection of child porn. No one is giving him a break, because he should have been in jail as we speak, and "after all this time" it's still just as ridiculous that he isn't. The amount of time that has passed since then, will not change that fact.

Do whatever you need to do, to make yourself not feel guilty for continuing to consume his work, but don't pretend that people being rightfully disgusted by him isn't, and for the rest of his life always will be, absolutely justified.

So yeah, absolutely no words for this getting a remake. It's just sad.

I don't care as long as one is not forcefully drawn into the discourse and crusade. It's done, the law has handled it in whatever way they deemed it, the companies have handled it. I'll stick to talking about the series and enjoying it.

It was literally just one mild comment by me (in a post that discussed other things such as asking about interest in a reboot) and one comment expressing mixed emotions initially. Hardly drowning the thread out, and considering what Watsuki did... it's not like he was arrested for pot or anything (though funnily enough that probably would have hurt him more), it's not the thing everyone will shrug off. But of course more responses and replies followed, and here we are.

But this thread is spiraling into a derail so let's end this now.

If you are interested and you don't want him to get money you can pirate the anime and not talk about it while watching it so it won't get popular

The preview was impressive. I think LIDEN films has been on the come up recently. The Bastard!! remake was pretty good so I am looking forward to this.

On the Watsuki issue, afaik he already paid his debt to society (unless I'm unaware of another incident). As long as he's hopefully getting the help he needs and is not relapsing I think he deserves another chance. Though if you're someone who can't forgive his actions I completely understand.

I knew it was a remake. I'm not feeling what I'm seeing in the video. Looking like the typical post 2010's series. Of course another recast was expected. Kenshin actually voiced by a guy now is the most interesting thing. Watsuki calling all the adaptations a multiverse is interesting, but that's really the only way to see it. lol

So many anime series that could have been given a reboot to (where's my Shakugan no Shana anime reboot?!) and they pick this one.

This anime was announced last December. You haven't gotten it out of your system yet? On top of that, you're asking for Shakugan no Shana over RK when Shana LN has only sold up to 9 million while RK manga has sold 72 million. Not only that, but the live action movies and new Hokkaido arc are selling. Japanese fans want more RK. Watsuki is thriving in this past decade. Not many mangaka's get that second wind. I'm not in the manga/LN/anime business, but I know very well that the higher selling series gets priority for a remake majority of the time. Your comment has no supporting evidence to back it. The anime gods have chosen. Also, let's not forget that if any series is deserving of a remake especially before Shana, it's the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime. The original manga sold 40 million and its 2 adaptations in 1998 and 2000 poorly adapted the story. The 25th manga anniversary just ended this month and Shueisha fumbled on getting it done unlike with the 20th manga anniversary that got manga fans Transcend Game and The Dark Side of Dimensions (manga canon sequels).

It's kinda intriguing that the trailer seems to hint at a more graphic adaptation of his past but also seemingly forgets that he did not have a cross shaped scar during the period of time when he was originally being hunted down by the shinsingumi. This could be a slight oversight or two different cut timelines using similar styling to the sequences we've seen prior in Trust & The First though so eh...wait and see i guess.

Watsuki is said to be supervising the entire scenario and casting of the adaptation and his comment indicates he approves of this adaptation, so I think it's in good hands.

That's good. I'm glad the creator is involved so heavily. Kenshin was one of my favorite anime back in the day so I'm super excited to see it given a faithful remake that hopefully covers the rest of the story the original anime never did. I'm very looking forward to this.

Now, if only we could get Konjiki no Gash and Soul Eater remakes then my favorite series would be complete.

The issues with Watsuki most likely mean that the RK reboot is doubtful to be licensed and streamed, or if there’s an auto-licensing condition still in effect it won’t be advertised above the bare minimum and won’t receive a dub. It doesn’t matter if it’s noitaminA or not, I don’t think US companies want to touch RK with a ten foot pole, even if RK might still be lucrative. I love RK despite everything but separating artist from the art is uniquely difficult for many due to the nature of what Watsuki was caught doing. And clearly judging by this thread, time hasn’t dulled the wounds. Most likely never will. And any company who gets involved with this show, willingly or out of obligation, most likely knows that they’ll be dealing with a PR black eye that might not be worth it.

We’ll see what happens, of course, but I have my doubts that this will see wide US distribution unless there’s an auto-license trigger that forces a distributor to do so.

Great news indeed, hopefully they adapt the whole manga.
Was really disappointed they didn't animate the Jinchu Arc; I'll never forget that full page image of Kaoru.
