A shame it'll only be 13 episodes, but that was to be expected with the lack of materiaal.

Although it would have been nice if they put in some saki biyori chapters as filler.

there are enough for around 20 eps. Maybe they just want to make 13, then take a break first.

Only if they want to end in the middle of the semi finals, which I don't think is something they want to do.

S3 will probably cover the semi's.

There is another way to do it. Similar to what they did on side A, they ended in the middle of the semi finals. Then release one OVA a month to finish the semi finals.

It won't end in the middle of the semi's though. So they won't have to do it.

Going theory is split-cour. 13 now, 13 more either in Summer or Fall.

Doubt it. The semi finals(in the manga) won't end until mid 2015~.

Split cour only used if it their is 3 month gap between the 2 seasons. So it'll just be a S3, and it will get aired in 2015(if we are lucky).

But the semi-finals may at least be close to ending. Unless the anime just starts doing it's own thing, this iteration won't cover the finals.

No, the term gets used for shows with six month gaps as well, though they ate less common.

Also, please trim your quotes.

Close to ending? far from it. She only finished the first 2 rounds(of the semi's) in the last 13~ or so months.

I'm well aware. Being at the last round of the current match would qualify as "close".

But they still got 3 rounds to go, including the biggest of them(Captains round).

Er, they're in the 3rd right now, so they should have 2.5 left. If they do a second cour next year, they'll almost certainly have to cover some stuff beyond the manga again regardless of the time frame. Or go the OVA route again.

Whatever the longer term plans, the cour about to start will almost surely just cover the match that already finished.

The 3rd round has only just started(at east-1), they only introduced the characters so far.

Either way, it won't be done(at its current pace) until around mid 2015. So no chance it will be animated in 2014.
The tv special route also seem rather pointless since they can just cover the semi's in S3.

Achiga had 16(-17?) episodes, so it made sense for it to go the tv special route.

Hahaha. It had 17 (I think) episodes because of hilariously poor planning and that's just what it ended up taking. They almost certainly didn't actually know how many episodes it would be when they started. Which is why it's entirely plausible they'd do that for the current round.
