Most of the art on Itaha is vinyl stickers. Said stickers can be kept off until you want to show off the car, at which you can put them on.
Not the one I saw being put on. This one, to take it off would mean destroying it.

FWIW, my father had a pickup truck a group of people had painted(alcohol was involved) and their work stood up pretty well to the elements and being on a truck hauling scrap. I don't know how strong stickers would be, but I given how long bumper stickers last I wouldn't be surprised to see some decent longevity on itasha.
