MTV only posted its news article five hours ago. There was a report about Petersen working on a Paprika film last August, but it was uncorroborated. MTV has the first article directly quoting Petersen himself.

On a separate note, I'd actually like to see him at least keep the ethnicity of Atsuko and the romance the same, just for the sake of doing something different (in terms of Hollywood's habits). Doubt it for the former, but it would still be nice to see.

It'd be very gutsy for Hollywood to keep the "thin girl/fat guy" romance, especially with Atsuko being so beautiful. That always surprised me in Paprika. The movie would probably work with the ethnicities changed to American though.

To be fair, in those cases, the fatty tends to be the main character, through whom the viewers are meant to identify.

There is nothing new on the internet. If you've seen it, there's already 50,000 other people who saw it on some other site. Just accept it and get on with things.

The uncorroborated news is old. The confirmation from Petersen himself is new.

If done right this could be a real gateway hit for anime. I am of course fine with Kon's version, but a well done live version (which is what I am wishing for), is something I certainly would want to see.

God, can you imagine how lush this film would be.

I'm cautiously hopeful about this. I would love to see a movie version with the same visual richness as, say, The Fall, by Tarsem. That would be pretty awesome.

Haven't seen Paprika, but I want to stand up for Petersen - seems a lot of posters here don't know about his work. While Troy stunk (and I heard Poseidon was terrible, too), his work has generally been not just good, but terrific. Das Boot is a classic, Air Force One was well-received and a big hit (one of the biggest R-rated films of all time when it was released), and In the Line of Fire and Outbreak were also both very good. And I absolutely loved The Neverending Story and The Perfect Storm. Petersen might just be able to pull it off, if he hasn't completely lost touch with good filmmaking.

(I wouldn't mind a live-action Perfect Blue, however, which just begs for it to star a pop princess looking for a breakout role in a big way).

There already is one. And it was bad. Oh so very very bad.....

Hope they keep (at least some of) the music. The visuals are fantastic, but playing the music has kept this film in my mind throughout dozens of sprawling traffic jams and meandering interstate drives.

I'm looking forward to seeing it in any case.
