Its design is very Zoids. I wonder how much it cost to make it. |

I don't suspect he'll be getting good mileage on that thing. The insurance premiums won't be good compared to vehicles of a comparable size as well.

That's great but will it be enough to fight off the 75ft bioengineered crabs?
That's awesome. |

Ah ii!
You make it should like he wasted his time doing this. This is pretty dang cool. And the fact it works is a freaking innovation in robotics if it actually used its legs to move as well as the wheels. 15 tons and only held up by 6 points? Thats good structuring and design. If it can actually support its weight and move around with its legs without ripping up the ground then that's just awesome. Also this is japan. You gotta think less anime and more Sentai or Superhero stuff. |

It's very cool and Zoid-like, now it's the time to customize and mobilize!

Nice, though a video is definitely needed of this in action. From what I can tell from the photos & summary, it's weight is supported entirely by two wheels on a central axle, with some caster outriggers for stability, and the legs provide the motive force (but don't support it's weight). The trade-off means it could only really move on a flat surface like a road (losing the advantages legs have on uneven terrain), but without the load-bearing requirement the legs could potentially move a lot faster than on other 'true' hexapods. I'd be interested in seeing the control system: the pictured control box makes it look like the driver has to micromanage each limb rather than there being any sort of centralised control, completely nullifying any speed advantage.

My first thought was that it reminded me of the Gourai Beetle "Zord" portion of the Gouraijin "Megazord" from Hurricanger (Ninja Storm in the US). I guess I'm not alone since Matt Alt linked to his article on the figure at ToyboxDX on his blog. Very cool, I'm even more impressed that it isn't just a statue, but can actually move around. Take that life sized Gundam! Emerje |

Aww it has wheels. Yeah i agree if it didn't have wheels it'd be much more awesome from the engineering standpoint. I guess you'll be stuck with Bi and quadpeds for awhile.

I am in awe.
Hmmm. Make this will start an international mech building race like the space race. Or so I can dream. Believe me! I would LOVE to be a mech pilot! |

This is so cool!
By looks alone, I think it was well worth all the effort. |

Thanks for posting that, it really is amazing to watch. But the obvious question is: Can it beat the mighty Robosaurus? Emerje |
