I may just pick this up eventually, since I somewhat enjoyed episodes 1-11, but I'm never ever going to watch those last two episodes again.

I really wanted to get this on Blu-ray this week, but had to cancel my order due to financial reasons (I've only got $50 to my name until my next paycheck Sad ). I never finished watching this because I saw it was coming out, looks like I'll be playing the waiting game to see those final two episodes, but from the sound of things I should ignore the last 2.

I want it, but not yet... I'll order the Blu-ray after I find out that it's not affected by the subtitle issue that the DVD episode 8 suffers from. I don't want a faulty disc if ADV's not going to fix it.

Really? The only thing I could think of that would spark that kind of derision is spoiler[the escape from the train.] That didn't bug me to that extent at all though, and aside from that I thought they were a fine pair of closers...

The story in general though is, yes, the series' weakness; however, I thought that it was certainly coherent enough that combined with its visuals and characters, Canaan makes for a solid ensemble piece.

Good to hear confirmation that the dub is solid. I just really hope that the subtitle delay issue isn't present on the BD release... Though it would explain what John Casey noticed about the release status of it at online retailers.

Wait, wait, wait a second! Jessica Boone is in this dub? I thought she quit and moved to NC with her husband, or something like that? After I find out what the deal is with the BD, I may get this sooner than planned because I'm a big fan of hers.

No, I can confirm that it's definitely her, as I've heard her in dubs several times. (Still a huge fan of her rendition of Christmas in Kurau Phantom Memory.)

And I didn't recall anything that stuck out about being problematic with the final two episodes. Can you elaborate, Megiddo?

Sounds like my kinda show! I'm so glad this warranted a dub right out of the gate! Smile

I caught the first few episodes of this over a year ago and was very impressed by the visuals (I believe it got a theater release?). So I'm very interested in getting as many impressions of the series as possible to decide whether it's worth taking a look at the rest of it.

How many say Theron's review is mostly accurate?

I do. The weaknesses in the writing really remain secondary though so long as they aren't given too much consideration. Canaan is a show that one is supposed to move right along with anyway, as is literally illustrated.

She did move, but she still has family in Houston. She decided to continue to do dubbing work at ADV when she travels back to visit family. She also has some minor roles in Xam'd.

I'm a big fan of hers too, especially her roles in Kurau and Maburaho.

I have the bluray preordered from Amazon and it should be shipping soon. I'm not too worried about the subtitle issue in episode 8. It has Hilary Haag and Jessica Boone, so I will definitely be listening to the dub.

Just like an American summer blockbuster action thriller except with more hot action girls and implied lesbianism! Surprised

spoiler[Everything that happened on the train. It was just ridiculous. And then there was Alphard who couldn't bring herself to kill Canaan... and then Canaan who couldn't bring herself to kill Alphard. It was just a really stupid ending.

Also, Santana had died earlier, and he (along with the taxi driver) were easily the best characters in the show.]

Me too, but... don't forget her impeccable performance as Chiyo in Azumanga Daioh!
It's great that she's still doing things here and there, but... the one I'm REALLY concerned is Stephanie Wittels.

Her performance in NHK was just so... wonderfully spirited! I'd like to see her in another lead role.

By the way Key, are you guys gonna review the new Tears to Tiara release? Because, I'm quite curious to see how ANN thinks of Matt Greenfield's newest dubs.

Well, I just completely forgot that she did that role.

I also liked her in Tokyo Majin (she was Aoi, one of the main ensemble members) and Air (Kano Kirishima), but her anime resume just isn't that robust; I suspect it's not a main focus for her. Her most recent work, as near as I can tell, is some minor roles in the Clannad dub.

It's part of a backlog from the Preview Guide weeks that I'm still working to get caught up on. Should get to it sometime in the next couple of weeks.
