I've been looking lately for some pretty rare animes. See if you guys at this anime forum site can help me find some legally for sale on DVD or VHS tape (and NOT bootlegs cause those are illegal too, and usually lower quality).
Let me start off by saying this. It seems that some of them, are so rare that even the Japanese copy can't be found (at least I haven't been able to for some of them). Interestingly the Russians and French seem to be keen about keeping copies (even if only as illegal torrent downloads, but sometimes legal DVDs or VHS tapes as well) of these rare animes. This causes the funny situation for some very rare anime of finding them ONLY in French or Russian (usually a crappy made dub containing a quieter original Japanese voice track and a louder Russian voice track in the same video, LOLWUT) and NOT in Japanese even though they ORIGINATED in Japan. Point being of course I'm not really interested in these French or Russian copies. I want either Japanese (for originalness) or English (so I know what's being said, and either sub or dub I don't care). I'll only accept these French or Russian copies if they are ABSOLUTELY THE ONLY COPIES LEFT ON THE FACE OF THE EARTH. (by the way, I'd like to get an entire set of tapes/DVDs so I could have all episodes, but if not I'll accept the tape/DVD containing the first episode, and ONLY if that is not possible then I'd accept any tape/DVD I could get a hold of) This means if you can't find can't find VHS tapes or DVDs of them at online stores on English language sites, check online stores on Japanese language sites. If push comes to shove, start contacting people you know who may have copies of these and if they do, ask if they'd be willing to sell me these copies. Try searching stores in your neighborhood that happen to sell anime or even dedicated anime stores if there are some (these places might have them but not have an online store so I'd never know about it). Basically check anywhere that might have it. If you know someone who lives in Japan, have them check their local stores that happen to sell anime or dedicated anime stores, and ask if they'd be willing to buy it and then resell it to me if they could find any. Here is the list of rare animes I'm looking for (alphabetized by English title). The format to my list is official English title (release year) ("movie"/"OVA" is used if it's a movie/OVA instead of a TV series) (if needed "or" is used here) alternate English title(s) (if "or" is used above) "known in Japan as" Japanese title in romaji (if needed "or" is used here) alternate romaji title(s) or spellings of the title (if "or" is used above) "or" official original spelling using Japanese symbols (i.e. kana and kanji and any English characters that happen to be used if there are any, such as the "W" in 新機動戦記ガンダムW for Gundam Wing in Japanese spelling) (an "or" can be used here too if more than one official spelling exists). My source for the titles are the variants presented at Anime News Network and Wikipedia, as well as my knowledge on the fact that several different romaji spellings can exist by pronunciation (even if not all documented for a given anime) and therefore are included as alternate spellings in my list. And without further ado, here is the list: Adventures of the Little Mermaid (1991) or Saban's Adventures of the Little Mermaid known in Japan as Ningyo Hime Marina no Boken or Ningyo Hime Marina no Bouken or Ningyou Hime Marina no Boken or Ningyou Hime Marina no Bouken or 人魚姫 マリーナの冒険 Aladdin and the Magic Lamp (1982) or Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp known in Japan as Aladdin to Mahou no Lamp or Aladdin to Mahou no Ranpu or Aladdin to Maho no Lamp or Aladdin to Maho no Ranpu or Arajin to Mahou no Lamp or Arajin to Mahou no Ranpu or Arajin to Maho no Lamp or Arajin to Maho no Ranpu or アラジンと魔法のランプ Alice in Wonderland (1983) or Alice's Adventures in Wonderland known in Japan as Fushigi no Kuni no Alice or Fushigi no Kuni no Arisu or ふしぎの国のアリス Swiss Family Robinson (1981) or Robinson Family Lost at Sea: Flone of the Marvelous Island or The Swiss Family Robinson: Flone of the Mysterious Island known in Japan as Kazoku Robinson Hyoryuki: Fushigina Shima no Flone or ふしぎな島のフローネ or 家族ロビンソン漂流記 ふしぎな島のフローネ Sally The Witch (1966) or Magical Witch Sally known in Japan as Mahou Tsukai Sally or Mahou Tsukai Sari or Mahoutsukai Sally or Mahousukai Sari or 魔法使いサリー Sally The Witch 2 (1989) known in Japan as Mahou Tsukai Sally 2 or Mahou Tsukai Sari 2 or Mahoutsukai Sally 2 or Mahousukai Sari 2 or 魔法使いサリー2 Sally The Witch (movie) (1990) known in Japan as Mahou Tsukai Sally or Mahou Tsukai Sari or Mahoutsukai Sally or Mahousukai Sari or 魔法使いサリー The Adventures of Peter Pan (1989) known in Japan as Peter Pan no Bouken or Pita Pan no Bouken or Peter Pan no Boken or Pita Pan no Boken or ピーターパンの冒険 Last edited by videogamer on Sun Oct 17, 2010 6:35 pm; edited 1 time in total |

What you're basically doing is listing, and that generally isn't allowed. Also, given the subject matter, I am moving this to the Retail section.

I believe listing is against the rules if the intent is to acquire pirated copies. But I think listing is ok if my intent is to legally buy these animes. |

Are you serious? I doubt Key was asking your opinion on the matter, so maybe you should think about who your talking to.

R3TW 10-disc version is available from YesAsia but the price is quite expensive. There is also a 2-disc high compression edition at less then 30% of the former but might not be available overseas. |

What's R3TW And I found the VCD (video CD) version there for only $6.99 The single DVD version for only $19.99 The 2 DVD version for only $19.99 The 3 DVD version for only $29.98 And the "box set" for only $59.98 (I assume the 10 DVD set, and it's NOT steep price like you said, as the original StarTrek for comparison is $99.99 per season, unless you get it at Costco where it's still $50) And when I think of steep price for anime I mean like $45.99 PER DISK! Like the few copies of Mahotsukai Sally DVDs at amazon.com And Yes I listed this anime on the list of ones I didn't know where to get, even though I knew amazon had them. Why? Because THAT price is so steep I'm not willing to pay it (And they had in the past the box set for like $600, I'm not lying! and it's not there now, it was sold it seems, proving someone WAS dumb enough to shell out that kind of money and buy it). This was the ONLY anime on my list I've seen for sale anywhere though, and it's only listed here because sellers at Amazon are selling it at such high a price that I'm not gonna pay that, and hope someone at ANN here can help me find a CHEAPER copy. And with Mahotsukai Sally, YesAsia does NOT have a cheaper price on the box set. They have it for the insanely staggeringly jawdroppingly high price of $875.74!!!!!!!!! It has all 19 DVDs, and yes it has more than the DVDs. It also comes with a collectible figurine and some kind of book (at least the picture shows a book, but the text only says 19DVDs + figurine). Unfortunately it's the Japanese language version meaning I wouldn't know what was going on (but at least I'd have the rare set). Now I don't about you, but I could quite frankly do WITHOUT the rare book and figurine and just get the rare DVDs, even if that would shave of only a couple hundred dollars. So yea, I'm STILL looking for a cheaper version (and no I don't mean the $45 price for a SINGLE DISK, as that is WAY too pricey for a single DVD disk). They also have something called "mahoutsukai sari gensaku kanzemban". What is that? What does that mean in English. Last edited by videogamer on Mon Oct 18, 2010 3:44 am; edited 1 time in total |

DVD Region 3 (SE Asia), Taiwan edition (NTSC).
Well then, YesAsia has part 1 and part 2; each part contains five DVD and costs US$81.99. The two-disc economy version has two discs at US$23, and if you buy it at PC Home then you can get Sans Famille for free!
That should be the manga republished by Kodansha in 2004. |
