How did Nico Nico Douga accomplish that in which Youtube didn't do?

How did Nico Nico Douga accomplish that in which Youtube didn't do? |
Partly because they have a subscription model. Hulu also reached profitability, but they have a lot higher fraction of marketable content: its easier to sell streaming ads for a network series than for a cat playing a piano.

Also Nico can get much better ad rates since their user base is considered Japan despite all the foreign users. You can additionally include the money they get through their Amazon.jp affiliation. They also have the pay for full bandwidth during peak hours meaning that they artificially cap their bandwidth usage.
Youtube relies on keeping bandwidth costs down by utilizing Google's massive dark fiber network for optimal peering.

niconico douga is like a youtube where everything is done right. The ads actually make me want to buy something because they are relevant instead of annoying, the premium fee is actually worth it, there isn't a jungle full of fake tags and clutter.... I wish there was an english equivalent, because youtube is terrible and poorly managed.
