Wait, I'd have to pay $100, but a woman could get in for free?
There oughta be a law...

Maybe they figure there wouldn't be enough women if they charged them?
I curious what exactly "sympathetic to otaku" means? I don't think I'd be too happy if I was paired with a woman who was there because she felt sorry for me in some way.

Sympathetic people who understand and accept the quirks of otaku (as opposed to having pity for otaku).

Also, what's with the age range?
Men 18-40
Women 18-35
This whole thing is just weird.

I guess I'd consider that part of the "tolerant of otaku" group, but whatever.

...Is it weird that I'd want to go?
Maybe it's just my warped mind set that'd love to date a hard core anime otaku...

I wonder how many otaku will be disappointed to find out that the women there will be 18 at the youngest.

Yeah, that's the first thing that got me, but doesn't surprise me. Japanese men are still pretty shallow about the looks.

From what I can tell, it's extremely common, and almost expected, for women to marry older men in Japan, or at least it used to be? But I'm guessing that men also just don't want to date 40 year-old women. Heck the 'Christmas Cake' by 25 years old came from Japan as well, so I'm surprised the age for women made it up to 35.

Can it get any more embarrassing living in this town? Just imagine your neighborhood being turned into some otaku tourist trap it's not even the GOOD kind of otaku, it's the creepy moetaku.

I can't tell if you are joking, but what's so bad about "moetaku"? Other than not sharing your taste in anime.

Theres something similar in the states as well, Clubs. They often let women come for free, have "ladies night" where they get to come free or get reduced pay such as 5 bucks to get enter whereas its 10-15 bucks for males. If you ever been to a club, there are usually more guys than girls even though they have to pay more.

I've never been to a club, though I was fully aware of that, but still, it's not a 100 dollar difference.
